Just to get this started. I just got off the phone with a LA Galaxy sales rep ordering my playoff and MLS Cup tix, and he informed me that this week's game v. SJ is SOLD OUT , despite it being a totally meaningless game for the most part. So that's a bit of good news. I don't even know where the many of the other games are this week, though I figure with a 1pm start in DC on Sunday, we shouldn't expect too big of a crowd there (despite the game's importance).
It's a 4 p.m. start Easterm 1 p.m. Pacific.. Not sure how that will affect attendance, but it's not an early game.
Re: Re: Week 29 Attendance d'oh! 1pm pdt which of course in my work haze I didn't translate to the 4pm start. are the redskins playing on the east coast or out west this sunday? It's KC's last game of the year and traditionallly they have a big last game crowd. Who knows about the Metros, but it's their last regular season game of the year as well.
I just checked ticketmaster.com and the only tickets available are for lawn seats. Apparently, they are opening up the "Lalas Hill" general admission section for this game. Actual attendance could be greater than the official sell-out figure (27,000).
Re: Re: Week 29 Attendance sshhhh. don't tell the city of carson. they have some kind of agreement that there wouldn't be more than 27k there at any time.
Why are all MLS games played in late afternoon or night? Soccer games should be played in the day and even in the morning. Especially this time of year when the temperature is so cold in the northeast. Earlier start times would be beneficial for MLS attendance. All they can do is try it. Look at when the NFL plays its games.
Actually, having day games has not worked for MLS before. In fact, the 4pm eastern TV slot has been terrible for attendance in many markets-- usually the heat and amateur soccer makes making it to games at that time difficult. You'd think the nicer weather would help though in the fall. Given our bad luck with day games, I'd be reluctant to experiment, but we're also playing later than ever.
Re: Re: Re: Week 29 Attendance Not sure where you got that info. However, the stadium seats 27k and they are now selling Lawn Seating so expect a number in excess of 27k tomorrow.
I knew they should have made that stadium smaller - it wouldl have sold out faster if they had. Funny how Lalas Hill is named after a hill Lalas ran up 30 miles away. I like it though. Those LA types - gotta have a nickname for everything: Victoria Street, Lalas Hill, Orenthal...
Like the other poster already mentioned, this has not worked in the past for MLS. The day and time that seems to work really well historicaly has been saturday evening. One of the problems with earlier in the day on either saturday or sunday is the conflicts with youth leagues. In the spring and fall this is when most of the leagues play. And the youth market is one of MLS's biggest markets, especially for groups.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Week 29 Attendance do you remember what dates the tennis tournament was at the HDC? it was in an article at that time. i'll try to find it when i get a chance. if someone remembers when that tennis tourney was, that would make it much easier.

It was a September 20 article in the Long Beach Press Telegram. The link doesn't work anymore, but here's my post when I found the article. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=1613638#post1613638 The article said, "an agreement with the city of Carson and Cal State Dominguez Hills where the Home Depot Center is located limits the total number of people at the facility at one time to 27,000. "
By agreement with Cal State DH, they can only have 27,000 people at one time at the HDC facilities. HDC should increase the seating to 30,000 and get permission for it. @LA 27,000 @Chicago 33,550 @KC 12,900 @Metros 15,570 @DC 16,450
