The Galaxy is comical at this point. They only seem to pick DPs based on name recognition and nothing else. Ever since Beckham (which was a big, big thing at the time for MLS in general), they've just gotten the big names. In the last several years, they haven't seemed to give two shits, or even a single shit, or even a shart, about building an actual team to compete. Even worse for them, LAFC have come into the league and are killing it, yet the Gals continue with their "bring in well-past-prime big name guy to sell tickets and jerseys" scheme. It's really pathetic.

Jonanthan dos Santos was 27 and was a starter for Villareal the year the Galaxy bought him. Giovanni dos Santos was 26 and was still a good player for Villareal (his last year there he missed 11 games due to injury and had 11 goal is La Liga the year before) when he came to the Gals. Pavon was 23 and a year removed from starting for Argentina in the World Cup when he came to them on loan. Yeah, Chicharito is 32 now, but really? That is well past his prime? Zlatan doesn't count because he is scoring a goal every 136 minutes in Italy this year (and every fan over here would fall over dead if they were getting a player with that strike rate). But to say they are just chasing over the hill names is a bit silly. And I put no stock in the Higuain rumor because any older expensive player has been linked to LA for about the past decade since Beckham was signed. As for the building the team part? Well, that is more of an issue. They haven't in the past few years addressed a weak defense and when they have it has been with players that haven't really helped. The other issue is GBS has not shown any ability in this league to put his players in a position to succeed. I won't say he is a bad coach because his record in Argentina says otherwise. But he hasn't shown anything to me while he has been in MLS. His team constantly is hitting in crosses and they have no target in the box to get onto it. That worked with Zlatan. It doesn't work with Chicharito or Ethan Zubak. And unlike Bob at LAFC he doesn't seem to trust the kids. Araujo and Alvarez didn't get much of a chance even if they showed well in games. Dunbar looked very lively in the first game of MLS is Back and was never seen again
To keep with the spirit of 2020 being such a glorious year to be a soccer fan! https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-fifa/story/4157362/fifa-21-ea-sports-to-remove-toxic-celebrations "EA Sports has announced it will remove some player celebrations from FIFA 21 after gamers complained of "toxic" behavior. The gestures referenced were the use of a single finger to the lips implying shushing, and the OK gesture"
What, that some people disrespected the anthem by booing through it, throwing a beer, and wearing a hat during it?
I agree. Also, if the good folks down at EA Sports HQ are truly worried, concerned and or desire to make a change to the pillars of toxicity in society, just take some cut of the millions they make off of FIFA21 come October and go into the worst neighborhoods they can find and set up a school. Or a kitchen. Nothing is more toxic for a human than to face hunger compounded by no way to learn life hacks like to read n count.
Here's some chew from Reggie Cannon on his thoughts on his own fans last night. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/reggie...ing-during-the-national-anthem-125149957.html
I didn't say anything about "past their prime". I said "they only pick big names". Zlatan is still great, and it's a bit hard to even define what his "prime" was, so he was a good pickup (though the way he regularly shat on his own teammates shows that "team-building" wasn't top of the list--and I'm sure LAG sold quite a few jerseys). Chicharito? Big name (largely from his time at ManU). His performance in the last several years? Meh. Some of their "big name" picks have worked out, others haven't. That doesn't change the fact that LAG's guiding principle is "bring in the big names". They had Robbie Keane (who was good), Gerrard (bad) and Ashley Cole (decent). It's good that they brought in Pavon, though (not really a "big name"). Still, "big name" seems to rule in Galaxyland, for better or for worse.
I couldn't agree more. Reggie Cannon ( whoever he is) gets to make a political demonstration as an exercise is his right to free speech and everybody else can bloody well shut up because Reggie doesn't give a shit about free speech unless it agrees with him. What dim bulbs like Reggia do t seem to grasp is that by making these overtly political ceremonies part of the game they're demanding that everyone else in the building particilate. And he's butt hurt because some people don't want to be props in his little cosplay session. Free speech for me but not for thee indeed. How about we stop ALL of this crap and just play soccer?
Yup. And on his rebuttal in the post game press session, as a grown ass man, he did come across like he was very butt hurt. He could have just thrown shade at the booing folks and move on. Spot on. In the past I always looked forward to enjoying sports to escape my work week, the issues of life. Certainly I didn't look forward for politics to be so embedded into the sports me and my buddies enjoy.
But you were ok with the politics that were there before, like the anthem, military flyovers, LGBTQ+ nights, cadets taking their oath of service at midfield (a particularly detestable practice IMO), Hispanic Heritage night, etc.?
