My goodness, reality is about to set in. In eight hours the 2010-11 English football season fixtures are published covering both the Football League and Premier League.

And we find out when we will be playing the Noblot (re-arrange the letters....) Horwich Scum, ManUre, Chelski blah blah blah.

With a total of 8 Premier League clubs in the North West it means quite a few local games.

    Blackpool
    Blackburn Rovers (28 miles)
    Everton (53 miles)
    Horwich Scum Wanderers (28 miles)
    Liverpool (53 miles)
    Manchester City (52 miles)
    ManUre (52 miles)
    Wigan Athletic (38 miles)

Even Stoke City is only 87 miles from Blackpool.

Blackpool will begine life in the Premier League at home to Wigan Athletic on Saturday 14th August. The following weekend sees a trip to London to take on Arsenal at the Emirates.

ManUre visit Bloomfield Road on 4th December, whilst the traditional Boxing Day fixture will see Liverpool coming to the seaside. The final game of the season - the small matter of ManUre at Old Trafford.

The opening day fixture has been switched from Bloomfield Road to Wigan, meaning that the home game with the Latics will now take place on Saturday 16th April 2011. It also means that it will be one of four consecutive home games in April.

The decision was made in case the new East stand is not ready by 14th August.

I know this is a bit late, I've not been on here in months but congratulations, genuinely.

It was brilliant to see you get promoted and I can't wait to play you next year. And we're at your place when the illuminations are on too, bonus.

Anyway, best of luck ... apart from two games obviously ;)

Re: We Are Premier League!! 2010-11 PREMIER LEAGUE Fixtures

Thank you! Good to be in the PL, but to say the least we are not anything like ready for it!!!

Good news for away fans is that the new East stand will be ready. It is a 5,070 capacity stand, split between home and away fans. It has stanchions though as it has had to go up very quickly. Similar in some ways to the Riverside stand at Ewood Park.

The media and cameras are in the East stand. So the media will be inbetween home and away fans, meaning you will be allocated something like 2,500 seats.

And coming during the Illuminations is fortunate!

Yes, that's an unfortunate aspect of the EPL, the snobbery. Good to see it mentions us in that article too, I would hate to be left out of that;)

Rather than congratulate the smaller clubs for being well run and surviving with the big clubs it's far easier to criticise them. Blackpool are undoubtedly there because they deserve it, if the bigger clubs don't like it then they should look at themselves first. You'll get used to it though. Just set Match of the Day to record the last 5 mins and you'll be ok ;)

Anyhow, enjoy the season, run a tight ship financially and even if you do get relegated the money should put your club on a sound footing. I hate to say it but Burnley should benefit greatly from the way they have handled themselves. I just hope you don't do a Portsmouth .... although I very much doubt your board are that stupid.

Thanks for building us a stand too. One thing you've done right is to put the media and cameras in that stand. We have our cameras looking at the Riverside and not the 3 big stands for some bizarre reason.

Another national media article on our promotion. I really like this one, even though it has a few inaccuracies (of course - no-one expected us to get promoted so the press are all of a sudden having to find out about the club). But it is balanced, and less patronosing than others. Plus it shows how perhaps we will be viewed for the most part this season. We will put the fun back into the Premier League!

Re: We Are Premier League!! 2010-11 PREMIER LEAGUE Fixtures

Not opening a new thread to post this, but on the eve of a Press Conference (which is due to take place in 8 hours time), the national media have started running a story that Ian Holloway has threatened to quit in frustration at the lack of signings and in Karl Oystons seeming inability or unwillingness to change his stance about the wage structure at the club.

Stories started emerging on Tuesday morning that something was wrong. BFC did confirm that Holloway was not at the ground today. Apparently on Monday he was down in London at a PL meeting. It was suggested that he had then simply driven to his family home near Bristol to think about his future. And that unless Oyston started relenting in his stance which has seen Blackpool lose out on over 40 players this summer, and even see Holloway himself describe some of the offers we have made for players as "insulting", then Ollie would be resigning.

It all makes for a very interesting Press Conference at Bloomfield Road in the morning when the national media, (television, radio and newspapers) are bound to question Holloway about all this (always assuming of course that he has actually returned up to the Fylde Coast).

We even made the back pages of a couple of national newspapers tomorrow morning - something BFC rarely if ever do.

Nothing is ever simple with Blackpool!

Re: We Are Premier League!! 2010-11 PREMIER LEAGUE Fixtures

Blackpool will travel to Latvia during the international break to play a friendly against FK Jelgava.

The Seasiders will play the 2009-10 Latvian Cup winners on Thursday 2nd September, kick-off 5:50pm (Local time) at the Zemgale Olympic Centre. The game will be screened live on Latvian television and will be attended by the State President of Latvia and the British Ambassador.

BFC Director Nurmunds Malnac is a native of the town of Jelgava, which is a small town with a population of 65,000, located about 41km southwest of the countries capital, Riga.

FK Jelgava were only founded in 2004 following the merger of RAF Jelgava and FK Viola Jelgava. Since then they have played in the 2nd tier of Latvian football, the First League (1. līga).

In the 2009 season Jelgava finished 1st and were promoted to the top flight, the Higher League (Virsliga) for the 2010 season. After 15 games they are currently 6th (out of 10). They have also won the Latvian Cup, beating FK Jūrmala-VV in the final on 19 May.

As Latvian Cup winners, they qualified for the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League, and recently made their debut in the competition, reaching the second qualifying round, losing out on away goals to Norwegian side Molde FK.

Of course, as this takes place during the international break, there will be a number of players missing. The likes of Charlie Adam, David Vaughan, Neal Eardley and Dekel Keinan will probably be on international duty with their respective national teams.

More info from FK Jelgava website.

Kick-off is 5:50pm but fans will be able to enter the stadium at 4:00pm!

Tickets cost 3 lats which is about £3.50!

The game will be shown live on the LTV7 channel, part of Latvijas Televīzija.

This thread makes me really jealous of our friends to the east.

Here in St. Louis, MO. We have our Div II team...and the closest team in our league is 600 miles north.

We have a PDL amateur team, and their closest team is 300 miles north.

We have no MLS...and the closest MLS teams are 300 miles either west or northeast.

To have all of your teams in a space the size of my state makes my very green with envy.

Re: We Are Premier League!! 2010-11 PREMIER LEAGUE Fixtures

Quite ironic really as here in NW England we have football clubs coming out of our ears.

Within 1 hour of Blackpool there are 7 other PL clubs (Blackburn Rovers, Horwich Scum Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Everton, Liverpool, ManUre and Manchester City). Then Stoke City is under 2 hours away.

And then of course as you go into the Football League there are loads of clubs. And even our Fylde coast neighbours, Fleetwood Town, now play at the 5th level of English football, the Conference National, which is the division below League Two. They played Mansfield Town last night at home in front of a crowd of about 1,800 and in the Mansfield side was Keigan Parker. Who in 2007 was scoring at Wembley for Blackpool in our 2-0 win over Yeovil Town in the League One play-off final!

Anyway, what a day at Bloomfield Road!! On the back of the announcement about the game in Latvia, all of a sudden it was announced on the official website that Karl Oyston has resigned as chairman and also stepped down from the Board of Directors.

At the weekend he had reiterated his offer to resign citing his frustration at the way PL clubs are run. He has though said all this before, and then he said that the other directors did not accept his offer to resign. Yet this time they clearly have done so.

He will stay on in the role of acting Chief Executive until either the end of the season, or such time as the Board appoint a new chairman.

Of course rumours have risen that this has all come to a head because of Oystons refusal to budge on trasnfer feers offered for players, some of which even Ian Holloway had described as insulting. It is doubtful we will ever find out the truth of why he chose today to resign. However, a couple of hours later, all of a sudden AFC Bournemouth have announced that they have accepted an offer for striker Brett Pitman. And in pre-season it was claimed that they would only accept an offer if it was close to £1m.

Rumours suggest that with KO having less influence now, that the likes of young Everton striker James Vaughan and even DJ Campbell might be coming in.

The club have just issued the statement saying KO was leaving with immediate effect and that they would be making no further comment at this stage.

Given that he previously offered to step down, but the board did not accept his offer, then clearly something has changed as they have accepted his resignation!

The board of directors is now Owen Oyston, Valeri Belokon, Normunds Malnacs and Gavin Steele.

It will be interesting to see who is brought in, but KO will be staying on for now doing the same role, but in the position of Chief Executive and not Chairman. He certainly won't have a vote on any board meetings not being a director now.

He could in theory stay until the end of the season, but perhaps the board will want someone brought in sooner.

On the day it is reported that Blackpool finally agreed to smash the club's transfer record and pay £1M for Brett Pitman, Karl Oyston chooses to resign.....

It is claimed that he had put a £500,000 ceiling on transfer fees, which with all due respect, might be ok for League One, and maybe just maybe would be acceptable for a lower Championship side. But when the club are in the PL, it is not acceptable.

There has to be a happy medium between the ridiculous transfer fees that Manchester City are paying and the other end of the scale where Karl Oyston seems to hate spending any money at all.

A rumour from a good source tonight points to it being more a matter of his dad Owen, the clubs majority owner, pushing him out.

The Daily Mail are already speculating that huge Blackpool fan Andy Pilley, owner of local non-league side Fleetwood Town, is favourite to replace Karl Oyston.
