Its baffling how Barrios hasn't gotten the respect he has earned during our last 4 games, the guy shields the defense exceptionally well, knows his job and is very tidy when he gets the ball. I understand if we want players who can play up the pitch more but surely his defensive work can free up more primarily attacking players to play over 3 deep midfielders.

We do have a squad that would do well in a 3-4-1-2 but we need to have the CB's work on it over time to have it as an option. Mina has played it some this year and Davinson has some with Spurs but I think it would be good to try out, that formation would get the most out of James/Muriel/Zapata and Cuadrado allowing them to play in their perfect positions.

    ----Muriel---Zapata
    --------James
    Diaz-Barrios-Cuellar-Cuadrado
    ------Sanchez-Mina-Medina/Cuesta

Diaz should be able to play that position but if not Yairo or Fabra would be good options to try. I think the main strength of this is James and Cuadrado getting roles that fit them perfectly and allow them both to be used without making one play out of position some.

Yeah I think we shouldn't read to much into those goals and look for factors that lead to them, they were nice goal and they had a little luck on the bounce in the second one but you can't really control for that. Sometimes team score nice goals, it sucks but lining up attacking or defending isn't going to change that the opponent will sometimes run hot and put up some goals on you, how you react and adjust is all you can control and Rueda and the team showed a ton of guts and intelligence to do that well. All in all we can walk away from this camp with our heads held high and we can move forward still right in the mix of qualifying.

Barrios does not offer enough going forward

Rueda wants 2-3 8s out there.

    we just don’t have them.

playing 3 in the back then Barrios would be perfect since counter attack he can go back and be a fake CB.

Rueda yesterday and against Peru basically sacrificed Defense for offense. And Argentina made us pay. To be fair it wasn’t just the 3 mfs the whole defense was awful on the first two goals.

Ospina should have done more on the header but saved us from 3 more additional clear goals

the 2nd goal was something out of a movie…. That shit shouldn’t have happened. He beat like 5 players and then scored

We got our pants pulled down on that second goal. It’s like when a team has two headers inside the box, you know the next touch is going in….

Yeah your holding mid doesn't need to offer anything going forward, he is good at his job so other can go forward and his play in possession is geared towards keeping the ball and allowing us to get forward more often which is the point of having a team of 11 players with different roles. Having Lerma on because he can go forward is like drinking water out of your own toilet, sure its water but do you really own a toilet to drink out of it?

Maybe Barrios will get to show his stuff in the Copa America.
Depending on how he does there then maybe he can leave an impression on Rueda.I had a good hunch the manager would start Lerma before he started Barrios though.

That's it. That would be building the formation to max the potential of your squad. That is so balanced.

And we can also add in Alzate/Uribe/Lerma for Cuellar/Barrios depending on what we want to do. It's a specific formation and not sure Rueda has manager that formation before, the manager really has to know his stuff to get the roles right, but most of the player should easily fit these roles pretty well.
