Yeah, I think James Joyce is going to be where I plant myself. That way I won't miss much work. Although not seeing the game in HD is going to chap my hide. Does anyone know if the mouse is going to show replays in the evenings?
That's good, because I decided I didn't want to shell out $300 for the HD-DVR receiver! Owwwww. Looking forward to some of the matches being downloadable from various outlets online. A friend of mine has agreed to host the ones I want so I can download and burn to DVD.
So the US match is at noon on Monday? So if I'm at James Joyce at 10:30 ... where will the party be by 11:45? Seriously though, how early would it be good to get there for the US matches to make sure a seat can be had?
It's a good question. I'll try to get a feel from the bartenders sometime this week. If I'm at the office on Friday, I'll be heading down to the JJP for the opening match anyway, so hopefully I'll have some sense of things.
I've mentioned this to JH6, I'll be up in Charm City for some weekend games (not this weekend). Just keep me posted with where the viewings are going on.
Will do. I have to see how my domestic situation is shaking out, but I could potentially have some folks over for the Italy match. As a bonus, I'm stumbling distance from The Brewer's Art.
No go on the home front. Mother in law is in town that weekend to watch my son while we finish painting our kitchen. I'm going to have "father's day" to myself in front of the tube watching USA-Italy. Sorry, it would have been fun.
I think there needs to be an architecture emergency at the James Joyce. Who am I to talk though? I'll be watching that one at home too.
Given the stratospheric strength of some of their brews, the lobby of 1106 North Charles is stumbling distance. I think my BIL is doing something big for the Italy game so I know I won't be up for that, but I'll keep in touch.
James Joyce Report: I caught the second half of the Germany-Costa Rica match at James Joyce. It wasn't too crowded. There were a handful of Germans there and a bunch of Americans cheering on Wanchope et al. This will be their first World Cup, so nobody knows what to expect. They did add a bunch of televisions though, so there shouldn't be much trouble following the game. The added a fairly large flat screen in the south dining area, which holds the most people. If Ed gets there early, he can hold seats! Yay! I think I'm going to take a half day on Monday.
I took half a day today and I told my boss today "See ya on Tuesday". Man...that was one hell of an opening day! Good matches. Can't wait until Monday. Thanks for the scouting report Lowe!
Walk South on President St. from the stop and you will literally run into it at the end of President St. It's about 5 blocks.
Good crowd at the James Joyce today. Monster, greenbill, Ed, Billtimore, JH6, and more were all there. Nice atmosphere, bad result.
