    Hi all,

How can I watch the World Cup on television in Japan? What channel will it be on? How many of the games will be broadcast? Will there be any English commentary?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Here's the best answer that I can give right now.

If there's a particular team you're wanting to see, besides Japan, I don't know right now. But here's the games that I know of right now on free (over-the air) TV:

    TBS (Tokyo Broadcast System)
    Match 1 --- June 9 --- GER v CRC - 18:00 Germany time - 25:00 Japan time
    match 30 -- June 19 - TOG v SUI - 15:00 Germany time - 22:00 Japan time
    Match 53 -- June 26 --- 1E v 2F -- 17:00 Germany time - 24:00 Japan time
    Match 55 -- June 27 --- 1F v 2E -- 17:00 Germany time - 24:00 Japan time

    Japan matches:
    match 12 -- June 12 - AUS v JPN - 15:00 Germany time - 22:00 Japan time (unknown)
    match 28 -- June 18 - JPN v CRO - 15:00 Germany time - 22:00 Japan time (TV Asahi network)
    match 43 -- June 22 - JPN v BRA - 21:00 Germany time - 28:00 Japan time (unknown)

Probably NHK, the main public broadcaster here in Japan, will have some or most of the group matches on their BS1/BS2/BSHi cable/satellite channels. Once the tournament reaches the knockout rounds, I believe the rest of the matches will be on free TV on various TV networks (Fuji TV, TBS, TV Asahi, and NHK) in Japan (I may be wrong on this, please correct me if so). As far as English commentary, don't know yet. Probably by the middle of next month, I'll know more.

    Hope this helps.

    Match 27 -- June 18 -- BRA v AUS - 18:00 Germany time - 25:00 Japan time
    Match 41 -- June 22 -- CZE v ITA - 16:00 Germany time - 23:00 Japan time

VN one question. In Japan, which type of TVs are common to general public. Chijyouha (over-the-air) or cable TV.

I still have the impression that most Japanese house have chijyouha.

SkyPerfect will have all of the matches if you have access to that.

Well,.... after consulting my girlfriend for some advice, it's kind of around 50-50 (Chijyouha-Cable/Satellite), that's just a best guess for me. I'm stuck with chijouka here, but my girlfriend hooked me up with the India and Bosnia matches couple months ago. Taped them (VCR/VHS), then mailed them to me so I can make the files for you guys.

Trust me I wish I had that option, it was either T1 internet or cable/satellite. Just don't have enough money to cover both, but I'm thankful they put most of JNT matches on chijyouha.

In case any Japanese fans in the US, are wanting to watch their country play, with Japanese commentary.
TV Japan, on DISH Network Satellite Service, will show the Japan games.

    http://www.tvjapan.net/eng/index.html

"TV JAPAN will broadcast a minimum of 9 FIFA World Cup matches and a maximum of 12 matches if Team Japan reaches the Finals. All games will be aired in Japanese language and will be broadcast 24 hours after the live event. In addition, special news highlights of FIFA World Cup matches with video footage will be broadcast."
