I remember this vividly. It happened right in front of the Nest. It was the second to last game of the season against Columbus and all we needed to do was hold on for a tie and we would clinch a spot in the playoffs. Esky had already picked up a yellow earlier and came in very late. I remember wondering what the hell Esky was thinking because that's not the type of tackle you should make even when you don't have a yellow. Then McBride scored in the last minute of OT and we had to wait another week to get into the playoffs, and we all know what happened then (provided you haven't repressed that series).

    God, I hated Trask.

Mike Wise seems to like to hit that 'other' angle to sports and athletes. Seems like United would be a great source for a whole series of Mike Wise articles.

Steve Goff is good, but it's nice to see some of the Post's heavier hitters step up.

Might have been. But still, when a forward is already carrying a yellow, he shouldn't go in with a needless sliding challenge on a defender.

But that anecdote definitely paints a clearer picture as to why Esky underperformed in 2003 and exploded in 2004.

Very good article. Two things of note. First, both the SE and the Barra made a donation of 250 in Esky's name. Second, who is this company that paid Esky 275. The barra was told we were not allowed to pay players fines.

Wisey did a nice feature on Marco maybe in the first year of DCU. Can't remember, but I have it cut out at home.

"To put your knee into someone's skull at full speed and to just walk away after you knock someone out, you got to be a cold soul," Eskandarian said. "I hate to say it, but he's dead to me. "

I agree. I know why Reis didn't apologize. Becuase he's a jerk!!! Jerks have no souls. Revenge can be so sweet! I hope we stick it to them Revs this weekend. I can't wait, but I must admit I am a little nervous. That Reis better keep his knees to himself or else.... Vamos Esky!

on a side note...... His girl is one lucky woman!! :p

If Reis is trying to clear the ball, it is legal to slide tackle him. Reis better watch his back... :D

and his front for that matter..... slide tackilng is one thing.... but a deliberate knee to the head... well that kind of immoral crap can't be legal. I belivieve that somehow the devil's son got signed with the Revs..... His name is not Damien... it's Matt.

Did you all catch his brother's name? Does that now obligate Knave to love all things Eskandarian?

Yea, I noticed this too. I wonder if there was some confusion about the second $275 (i.e. that it came from the Barra but through someone that owns a business and got confused on who it was from).

To those that seek revenge on Reis in a physical challenge, I suggest that Esky is way better than that. Bagging a hat trick on Reis would sink in more, especially because Esky has enough class to appologize for humiliating him in the post-game comments.

    :)
