Since I cannot start my own thread, I'll carry this one over.

    Washington Capitals (2013 season)

Ovechkin, Backstrom, Green, etc. are back.

Adam Oates brings a new coaching philosphy.

Is this the year of the Capitals?

    Thanks again, rep given.

ps-I have been to Toronto, Montreal, Tremblant and Quebec, so when I go back up there I'll have to stock up on some of the whiskeys you mentioned in the other thread.

    pps-Let's Go CAPS!

Looks like the Capitals are going to have a free flowing offensive style again!

Maybe not to the same extent as the Boudreau coached teams, but offensively non-the-less.

The coach is even talking about using Ovi on the penalty killing unit!

I heard that Ovechkin might move to right wing at times. You think Green will finally stay healthy? Any idea what the lines might look like? Good luck this year.

Yes, Adam Oates has said that he will switch him on occasion. He also stated that Ovechkin will also be used on the penalty killing.

I hope Green stays healthy, and if he plays a more offensive style he just might (he tends to get hurt more when he plays defensively, kind of ironic).

These are the lines that have been used in practice:

    Offense
    Johansson-Backstrom-Ovechkin
    Wolski-Ribeiro-Brouwer
    Chimera-Beagle-Ward-Wilson
    Hendricks-Perreault-Fehr-Crabb

    Defense
    Alzner-Carlson
    Hamrlik-Green
    Schultz-Schilling
    Erskine-Hillen

Thanks for the good luck, the Capitals are going to need it.

Time is running out on Ovechkin/Backstrom to bring the Cup home...

Right now the Capitals are ranked #9 (in the NHL power rankings), but I think they should be two notches up higher ahead of Nashville and San Jose. (Bruins, Penguins, Rangers, Blues, Kings, Blackhawks are 1-6)

I was at the Capitals open to the public practice at Kettler today, impressive turnout of around 1000 fans.

The one thing that stood out for me was that Ovechkin was the first one off the ice after the practice ended and the optional portion started. Everyone else stayed on the ice. Backstrom was the second off the ice...

Not a very good sign when the Captain does that...

The Caps got a big win on Saturday despite not playing all that well. Good to see that they did not fold after taking a lead, granted it was against a weak opponent. If they can take the two points down in Florida they will be right back in the playoff hunt, hard to believe after the way they have been playing.

It should be a very interesting season...

The Capitals face a tough Rangers team without Mike Green.

Yep, but Ovi needs to bring this consistently - not that you didn't know that already.

    True that!

He has been playing much better, as has the whole team. Still in last place, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Although the only way the Caps are going to make the playoffs is by finishing in 1st place in the southeast...

No Malkin, no Letang, all the Caps have to do is deal with Sidney Crybaby...

    ps-Laich and Orlov are back.

I was really looking forward to the Isles getting the 6 seed. No longer. I'd much rather they take their chances against Montreal or Boston at this point. Caps are no joke.

Funny that you mention that. M wife when asked which team she rather face did not give an answer, but offered that she rather not play the Islanders. I tend to agree.

    ps-Thanks for beating Winnipeg!

    What a relief!

Ovi with a legitimate chance of winning the MVP.

The Caps have finally shown that they can play both ways.

The playoffs should be interesting. Not sure who I prefer playing in the first round.
