Anyone catch Michael Irvin's interview with Warren Sapp on Sportscenter yesterday? Sapp thinks he is getting picked on by the NFL front office because he gets fined more for his antics than other players. Most recently he bumped into an official while skipping onto the field before a game, and he again skipped through the Indy Colt's warm up session as well before a game. First off Sapp, why are you skipping? But one of his comments durring the interview really showed his ignorance. He said he played the most popular sport in the world but couldn't market himself because he is not allowed to remove his helmet while on the field. He can only market the league. Most popular sport in the world? Idiot. Ever heard of soccer Warren? Ever heard of Formula 1 racing, ever heard of Rugby? All of which put NFL Football in the dust on a worldwide popularity scale. Warren, stop crying and grow up.
Warren Sapp RULES!!!! NFL is quite popular worldwide too, problely as much as rugby. In Australia we get NFL blast, Primetime and up to 3 live games per week.
Re: Re: Warren Sapp is an idiot! But not even as close as soccer. Warren Sapp's comments are only a small fart in the cosmic sense of worldwide sports. I know we're all defending soccer here, but indeed, Sapp's comments are quite a bit far-fetched.
Regardless of the soccer thing, Sapp is probably the most aptly named player in American sports today.
His most idiotic comments weren't about football being the biggest sport in the world and not being able to market himself, but calling Paul Tabliabue and NFL execs slave masters. To paint a group of people with that moniker is pretty offensive.
True, Sapp's a dork. But he backs it up with excellent play on the field. Which qualifies his actions off it, for some.
Wasn't referring to merely this season. But his standard of play over the course of his career has been better than most, if not excellent, at his position or otherwise. And he has a Super Bowl ring, something which a vast majority of players can't lay claim to, either. I think he's got a right to shoot his mouth off, within reason, but he's got a responsibility to back it up on the field as well.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Warren Sapp is an idiot! Huh? Ruppert Murdock a few years ago tried to buy Manchester United for 1 Billion dollars. It wasn't enough.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Warren Sapp is an idiot! That's not why his bid fell through. Google is your friend. Use it.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Warren Sapp is an idiot! Yeah, we all know the bid failed because Murdoch is a slave master.
Still though, thats the ammount of money that was offered. I quote ESPN the Magazine's May 31 1999 article "Power and Glory, Manchester United is the world's only billion dollar team-and a bargain at the price" by Jeff Bradley. "When Murdoch threw those 10 digits on the table last fall, American sports fans gasped at the number. Understandably. According to Forbes (Dec. 14, 1998) the Yankees, Cowboys and Bulls - the most valuable franchises in baseball, football and basketball - were worth $1.078 billion. Combined." Now all I'm saying is NFL football is not the world's most popular sport as Sapp said, ratings wise, money wise, anything wise.
