Wanchope was clearly at the end of his career with the Chicago Fire. I saw a lot of his games and you could tell he just didnt have any gas left in the tank.
But im still thankful for everything he did for our national team and helping putting Costa Rica on the soccer map. Even when he was scoring a lot of goals in England he never denied our national team and always came to play no matter who we played against. You could always tell he had a lot of passion and always wanted to help our soccer grow. From his first international goal against USA in the 1998 qualifiers til his last goal with Chicago Fire against Columbus Fire i thank Wanchope for everything he did for us. I hope he becomes some type of coach for our youth teams or gets involved with the Fedefut because im sure with his experience he can help us get better unlike the people that are involved with our federation right now who only care about money .

Wanchope was world class, but his "butter knees" didn´t help him. At the end of his career he didn´t run, didn´t score, did nothing. It was the right time to retire.

I still remember the 2 goals he scored against Germany. I hope CR could get soon a player of his caliber soon, because I don´t see anyone coming from behind.

I thought it was about time.

Wanchope did put CR on the map.

great guy all around. Always used to go to my wife's high school to visit his aunt. Always brought gifts to the students.

What's up he wasn't happy in the MLS? He did a pretty good job with the Fire and could play a couple of more seasons.

    Wanchope will be missed! :(

Its sad he has to retire so young, especially since we don't have one single foward like him.

He was a good player, I saw him on TV last year a lot and he looked slow...so slow. Great player who will be missed.

I hated Wanchope so much as a kid for always single handedly destroying Guate's WC contentions but always respected him. He was a man among boys here in Central America. Truly a great player.
