WAFF has started with Iran beating Bahrain 3-0 in Group A. Jordan are playing Syria at 18:00 GMT and then tomorrow is Iraq-Yemen.

Todays big match pits Iraq against Yemen.

The nations have met on three previous occasions, Iraq coming out on top in each match, two World Cup qualifiers and a friendly.

    Previous Meetings

    26/05/93: Yemen 1:6 Iraq (WCQ)
    16/06/93: Iraq 3:0 Yemen (WCQ)
    03/12/04: Iraq 3:1 Yemen (Friendly)

All the games have been played on neutral soil.

Sidka didn't mention it, I think he wants to keep it secret.

    Iraq 2 - Yemen 1

1st Half was a desaster by all means. 2nd Half went better but the performance wasn't more than average at all.

And I really don't know why Nashat is still with the team, he did absoloutely nothing tonight.

    Hello my iraqi friends.
It looks likely that both Iran and Iraq will win their respective groups which means they will face each other in the semi finals of WAFF. Should be an interesting encounter :D

As we all know Iran is facing Iraq in the group opener of Asian Cup 2011

Should be interesting indeed. How strong is your squad at this tournament, how many likely starters at the Asian Cup are there?

It's a pretty strong squad, only 5 likely starters are missing. What about yours?

    Thanks.

We have a mixed squad, experienced players like Hawar and Nashat and young players from the domestic league.

Karrar was called up to the squad, but unfortunately he missed out because of injury.

Things will be more clear once Sidka calls up Younis Mamoud, Emad Mohammed, Karrar Jassim, Bassim Abbas, Alaa Abdul-Zahra, Salam Shaker to the squad (likely at the friendly against Qatar next month).

I think we'll have some changes from the 2007 squad. Few local players like Samal Saeed and Aws Ibrahim did a good job and might secure their places at the first 11.

I would add Amjad Radhi or Mustafa Karim to that list too.
Hopefully the two starting strikers if they even play 4-4-2 will be one of those two with Alaa and leave Younis on the bench please he might be good in the air but his touch is awful.

R u serious... leaving younis on the bench is not a very smart thing to do... did u see his games with Al gharafa, he again had the most goals in the league.

Alot of people are talking about how younis shouldn't even be on the team... i don't remember a time where younis messed up for the national team...

YOUNIS IS THE BEST STRIKER THAT IRAQ HAS RIGHT NOW...

I'm very serious, im sorry im tired of Younis playing "good" with al-gharafa then coming to the iraqi team and stealing valuable playing time from young strikers like alaa and playing horribly with the national team.
It really does puzzle me how we can play well for his club then really horrible for his country.
