Buddle's free kick has to be one of the finalists.

Maybe, certianly Kirovski's bomb and a pick one DeRosario strike will be finalists. Those were the only two off the top of my head that made me say wow this year.

For best build I like the Zizi Roberts goal, May 22nd.

For best celebration it's got to be Eddie Johnson, July 24th

For best pure strikers goal it must be Andy Herron 1st goal, October 2nd

Buddle's goal was very nice, but I think the camera man deserves half the credit for an amazing angle on that shot. With Andy Herron, he went from face down in the grass to ball curving beautifully into the upper right from a crazy position with defenders closing.

Also, is it just me or is Henry Ring the victim of some amazing goals? He is in half the videos.

Steve Ralston's goal winner in the final regular season game must get some consideration.

Not only was it a precise and masterful shot, the importance of the goal was monumental for the Revs.

    He's got my vote.

FWIW, I'd never vote for a free kick as goal of the year.

I voted for Dwane DeRosario's sixteen-yard volley on August 7th.

    Oh please.

It's not that I think it doesn't take talent, but I think there is a huge difference between what is required to score from the run of play and what it takes to score from a free kick.

What happens with goals from the playoffs? I've always wondered about that. Maybe they should have a playoff goal of the year or something? I dunno, it doesn't really matter, but it seems like they should get some kind of attention. If they do include them, and I've just made myself look like an idiot, then by all means, go ahead and laugh at me. :)

Ronnie O'Brien's Aug 28th goal got my vote.

There was a chillingly familiar voice on the Martino goal call.

I wish they'd let you vote for 3 or 5 for the first round...just too many pretty goals to have to pick one. It's a bit insane.

DeRosario's half volley, Glen's sideways flick, Buddle's free kick, O'Brien's deke and just about anything that Heron touched...I'm not sure who to pick.

Most years there are 1 or 2 that really stand out, but there are a lot to choose from this year.

But I think I would have to go with Cornell Glen's trailing-foot volley - that is a goal that I have never seen in MLS before and it was the amazing culmination of such a crazy game. And how are there no other nominees from that game? Vaca's missile was better than a lot of the 41, and Landon had a pretty sweet goal in that game too.

I agree that we should be able to vote for more than one. If I had three votes, I'd go Glen and DeRo's swinging volley against DC - and I think Ralston's goal, even though that is three volley goals, because it sent the Revs into the playoffs. O'Brien would be next for me - it'd be better if the player he'd megged wan't Orlando Perez, but that was still pretty freaking great.

There were a lot of crazy-good goals this season. I went with Paule's free-kick bomb - he couldn't have hit that any better.

I voted for Glenn's backheel. That was an amazing goal.

It was a fantastic goal, but it's probably more impressive for being a last second goal to put the Wizards through.

Jewsbury's goal was very nice and it was more important than the goals that are up for Goal of the Year. But, to me, it wasn't as showy as the following ones.

Based on "spectacularity" I voted for Cornell Glen's leaping backheel. The next best were DeRo's volley against DC and Buddle's freekick against Chicago (swerve with the outside of the foot).

Of course, DC goals are always best!

DDR's 2 and Buddle's freebee were the top three. I hope all three go through. I voted for DDR's sick volley.

Kirovsky's GK nightmare was the best for me. Don't see one like that but once a season, if then...

I thought that was one of the harder goals to score. He took it on the run first touch from 45 yards out. Spectacular really.

    DDR's volly was sick too.

I don't see how it could go to any of the others. Glenn's was sweet too though.

That was my assessment, too. Glen's goal was such a cheeky little touch. As I remember it, the approach work was very nice on that goal, too; it's a shame that MLSnet doesn't include much build-up in its highlights these days.

Since Glen somehow didn't make the final five, I went with the DeRo volley.

Given the situation (importance), the two 1 touch passes to set it up and the strike on the run from 20 yards plus into the side panel...well that's about impossible to beat. For me (and all the KC fans) that had to be the goal of the year with no one even close for second.
