Sporting played Setubal for round one of the Carlesburg Cup in the final league play.
Well we lost 1-0, and rightfully so. Another horrid display from Sporting, and what is it going to take to get this team to play some good futebol.

I for one am not surprised, it seems a lot of turmoil in the clubhouse, and players just going through the motions no desire, no hunger.

the sporting claque was chanting "vergonha" at one point. They looked horrible! You can't expect a 17 year old to play upfront with a bunch of men and score. Levezinho is very inconsistent and I think he time at SCP has run its course. Is it just me or does sporting seem to lack a player who can drible towards the D with the ball and break down the defense? They seem to consistenly stop when the see a defender and then swing to the outside only to deliver a piss pour cross.

It's a very young team, and when you have guys like Liedson who is suppose to be a leader bad mouthing the coach and his discipline these are the results you get.

Carlos Freitas is gone, he is the one who put this mess of a team together. There is talent here, but not enough of the right type of players.

Paulo Bento is a good coach, but yesterday he was outclassed by Carlos Carvalhal and when you put that together with a team that looked unmotivated...

Thank goodness for Stojkovic or it would have been 2 or 3-0!!

    The following has to happen:

Liedson needs to go, there is no way he can stay after what he said.
Paredes was a waste of money and is now gone.
Farnerud is a waste and needs to go.
Bring back from Loan Saleiro and give him a shot.
Get rid of Veloso and start playing Silva.

These players get their heads filled with so much crap by their money hungry agents that they forget they still need to perform.

    True enough!
Veloso's play has dropped considerably (among others) since visions of big dollars danced in their heads. It does appear the hunger is gone so too the season. At this rate, we'd be lucky if a uefa cup spot was ours come next season. For any of you guys that like watching soccer talk, trio do ataque on rtpi is a great show which focused primarily on sporting's "crise" on the last episode.Just to think we play porto in a few weeks and seeing the state that we are in right now, that game could be ugly.
ah well, there's always next year !:(

Another disappointing result... Subbing off Pereirinha so early in the first half right after Setubal scored, can't be good for the kids confidence...

Veloso had another horrible game, passes were way off and he was almost invisible out there. Marian Had should never be placed in the starting lineup, we are in desperate need of a LB, Had sucks and so does Ronny. Had almost costed a goal, and his passes were way off, and out of position almost all the time. Luis Paez was a disappointment to say the least, guy was invisible and often looked lost out there, but it is understandable considering the kid is only 17 years old... Abel also had a pretty bad game... Liedson played okay, almost had a goal - and looked to be working very hard all game. Moutinho, Polga, and Tonel were all decent. Romagnoli, Vukcevic, and Stojkovic were the few bright spots for SCP...

All I can hope for is that Bento will turn things around in time for this Sunday's match against Academica, we can't afford to lose this game...

This is what I'm not afraid of from this team, when it comes to big games, we have shown up.

Now with games we should win, the team is out coached, and out played.

As for PB's coaching he's been out coached way too many games this year.
The problem is they were against teams we should beat, even with the current players.

what is going on? I hope you mean to say: "Rest Veloso for a couple of games..."

PBento doesn't have a good handle on his plantel and has mis-managed it from the beginning (which shows his lack of experience)

Once a player's head is filled with nonsense he is useless to SCP. His agent has filled his head full of BS and he has thoughts of Man U or Real Madrid and it is starting to show in his game. He has been invisible in the last 2 games, Particularly against Boavista.

The same thing happened with Dani, Simao, Viana, Quaresma, Nani, et al...if they don't want to honor our jersey then let them go...
