Like Neuer, he has eliminated those brainfarts for the most part. He has turned into a monster CB. One thing I don't think he gets enough credit for, and I don't recall seeing it in the video, was his long ball that allowed Ribéry to give Robben the assist for the CL game winner. Monster CL final, also a monster in the World Cup final.
