Can Rino Matarazzo work his magic again? Can VfB overcome a raft of early injuries? This is the thread for the new season, so feel free to post about ALL matches, whether they are league or Pokal. ESPNFC link to VfB's schedule: https://www.espn.com/soccer/team/fixtures/_/id/134/vfb-stuttgart
Today's match is VfB’s DFB Cup tie away to BFC Dynamo on Saturday at 15:30 CEST (9:30 AM ET), at the Sportforum Hohenschönhausen in Berlin. VfB Injuries: Silas (still in Rehab, Nov-Dec back to training), Ahamada (Calf injury, start of Sept), Kalajdzic (Covid), Coulibaly (Covid), Nartey (Covid), Cisse (bone fragments in foot), Mangala (training but still in rehab), Führich (rehab for shoulder break, End Sept back to training), Mola (training and getting fit after his injury), Endo (Olympics), Beyaz (can only play once he reaches his 18th Birthday on the 29th of Aug) and Lilian Egloff (rehab, end Sept).
Thanks for starting the thread! I don't know the names yet for the apertura or closura so it was best you put those in. Wow. I didn't realize how injury hit the squad was. Hopefully the cup match today gives Matarazzo an idea of who is ready for the start next Saturday against Greuther Furth. Playing a promoted side should give us three points, but if he doesn't have a unit that understands each other, it could be lost points instead.

Well that sure was a nice way to open Cup play! It looks like Borna Sosa is in form, assisting on the first goal and scoring the second. 26' H. Al Ghaddioui(assist by B. Sosa) 45'+1 B. Sosa(assist by R. Massimo) 0 - 3 53' K. Mavropanos (assist by P. Klement) 0 - 4 68' M. Klimowicz 0 - 5 82' M. Sankoh(assist by E. Thommy) 0 - 6 88' D. Churlinov(assist by D. Didavi) Even Klimowicz go in on the action. I assume that their opponent is from the lower leagues, but still a nice training match to be sure. What is the story with Kalajdzic? Is he still on break from Euro 2020?
Kalajdzic is out due to Covid protocols. Whether he is actually sick, or merely tested positive, I can't say.
Bored at work already on a Monday, so I am starting the Week 1 discussion with the expected lineup for Saturday's match, when VfB host newbies Greuther Furth in Stuttgart. Expected lineup, striker up top, 3-4-2-1 formation, same as last season. Al Ghaddioui Didavi, Forster Sosa, Karazor, Klement, Massimo Kempf, Mavropanos, Ito Bredlow This is assuming that no one comes back from injury just yet. Gotta beat the newbies to get off to a good start. BTW, I am volunteering Saturday mornings until late September, so I will be watching this on delay, so no live commentary from me for several weeks.
No need to record. ESPN+ will allow me to watch the match on replay for up to a week afterwards. I will see it Saturday or Sunday afternoon. You can post what you want in this thread because I will watch the replay before logging in here. Thanks for the choice.
