Veracruz loses 2-0 because they failed to show up

im going to go against the grain here. I dont like Dr. Herrerias, but im glad he did what he did.

people can use guilt tactics all they want and play the "respect the fan" mumbo jumbo

somehow, i think the wednesday match will get a little heated. I have a feeling the ref will not know how to act. The jarochos will act as if the ref is against them

maybe it is better for Pumas to lose today and get a team that is in the corsshairs of the FMF

I don't think hes a defender ut he does look young and inexperienced. On top of that pumas were using some of their younger guys. It was an ugly game though I changed the channel after the the third goal. :(

    There's two Palacios.

Miguel Palacios is a keeper. Marco Palacios is a defender.

    1945-46 San Sebastian 1 - 0 A.D.O.
Reason: They wouldnt let them suit up more than 5 foreigners

    1959-60 Toluca 0 - 1 Atlas
Reason: They paid respects to a team member who passed away (Luis Gutierrez Dosal)

    1993-94 Toros Neza 0 - 2 Santos
Reason: Were not granted permission by the Municipal authorities to play

I think Hugo and Co. anticipated Veracruz's extra 3 days of rest and countered with playing with 4 noobs and giving Delgado some playing time.

I am surprised most clubs didnt do that?

By no means am I endorsing the events that occurred this weekend. it makes our league look semiprofessional, but sometimes unwanted acts change things for the better.

Yeah, but then this brings the possibility of any other teams using a reason (or excuse, depending on the side) not play the last game.
I'm glad this has happened only three previous times (thanks for the answer).

Yeah, it was bad. I would like to have two tournaments (league and cup). But the "liguilla" is embued in us all, it is when we actually watch interesting games.

But I agree with Herrerias, why do they have to play under infernal weather at 12:00 if they are not playing for anything (like Cruz Azul, Dorados, Santos and Tecos) ? The stupid FMF say is because they would have an extra day of rest. But then they were FIRST place and will play the NINTH place. Now they will have an extra week of rest! And several pumas players will be rested as well. Interesting how this mind games end up.

Who will prevail ? Veracruz or Pumas ?

Mexico's Veracruz fined for refusing to play in heat

MEXICO CITY, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Mexican first division club Veracruz have been fined an amount equating to an "average attendance" after they refused to play on Sunday in stifling heat.

Veracruz, based in the city of the same name, failed to turn up for their game at home to Chiapas as they carried out a threat made by their president Rafael Herrerias the week before.

Midday temperatures in the steamy tropical port can easily reach 40 Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) in the sun.
