I used to live in Valencia & know a lot about the team if there's anything you want to know. Ask away ...
Maybe Valencia's most recognizable player is Santiago Cañizares, their goalkeeper who has been the National team #1 for the past couple of years. He was unable to play in the World Cup due to an freak injury, severely lacerating his foot on a cologne bottle. Other than Santiago, I'd say Pablo Aimar, an Argentian attacking midfielder, Kily Gonzalez, Argentinian left wing, and Ruben Baraja, a defensive midfielder and Spanish national teamer who played in the last World Cup. Did I miss anyone?
Vicente is not as recognizable but he has been splitting time with Kily on the left wing. Other than those players named probably the other most known player there is Ayala.
Canizares, with his dyed-blond hair and gray hawk eyes, is probably their best player. He won the Zamora award last year for the second straight year. The award is given to the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-per-game average. I agree with Malaga CF Fan who said he is the most recognizable. Pablo Aimar is really becoming their best player on the pitch. He passes, he directs the offense and he scores. If only they could get a real striker!! - C
Maybe Baraja, he was very important in obtainig the title last year. Although Valencia's strength is teamwork, not individualities.
Valencia is a funny team ... they don't score very much and sometimes can be the most frustrating team (eg UEFA Cup game against Inter Milan when they couldn't score even though they came close again and again) but they play excellent defense and blend well together as a team when they need to. Baraja's absence last season hurt them but when he came back, he really sparked them and provided that final push at the end of the season. He's a valuable player.
Although I'm a huge Aimar fan, I must agree about Baraja, his goals came out of nowhere to push the team to the top of la Liga.
