Martial needs to put his fitness issues behind him. I actually think playing CF might help him with that as he's responsible for less ground.

I love the understanding he has w/ Rashford. His goal was gorgeous and the backheel assist from Rashford was pretty, but that goal was made by his movement before receiving the initial pass and then his eye of the needle pass ahead to Rashford. That was a tremendous find. The fact that he made that pass and then didn't admire, but worked his ass off to get into a scoring position after it, tells me all I need to know about what his best position is.

There are parts of AM9's game that still need refining, but he is meant to be scoring goals, that was wonderful CF play.

Martial has looked happier on the pitch as well. Guessing that getting his number back and playing in his more favorite central spot among other things, are contributing factors. Long may it continue, as a happy Martial can be a killer one for United.

He has bad habit of dicking around, he needs to stay focus and train hard to stay fit. Somebody tell him to smile.

Martial must be kept fit for the remainder of the season.

Vast understatement. Martial has shown since his return how important he is to Rashford, but the team as a whole as well. He just makes us tick up front.

Fingers crossed he can take part in most of our games this season and have a genuine breakout season, where he handily beats his previous numbers.
He looks stronger and more committed than before: may not be the biggest guy physically but it's pretty evident that he's hit the weights in the past year as well.
His attitude looks improved also in the sense he does not appear to be as aloof as he used to be and is making a point of getting himself and others involved. Him being a lot more vocal on the pitch is testament of that.
Those are all signs that he's growing up as a person and player and that's what is needed from him. The signs have been positive since his return.

He was never a winger and is playing in his preferred position with less toxic environment.

More than ever, really have big hopes for this partnership. Still pretty young with their best still to come. And they seem to enjoy playing with another, which is only good in terms of their understanding of one another.

Still think he is better in a Cr7 role than the fat Ronaldo role.

@Ashur They will continue to grow together and despite struggling results both have discovered happiness which clearly was missing under Jose.

@Zada Nopz he doesnt have skill set/athleticism of Ronaldo and more importantly in our current he makes front 3 tick.. with Pogs as 10 he can work as LW but he enjoys playing 9 and im pretty sure his agent made the same statement 3 seasons ago refuting wenger claims he is LW not 9.

Makes sense with how he's been playing in a more central role since he's returned. A clear/massive upgrade on Giroud. A Griez, Martial and Mbappe frontline could be absolutely frightening to their opponents.

Giroud served purpose in constraint front 6, would be surprising If Deschamp deploys fluid attacking front 3.

    Losing patience.

Its one thing to have his demeanor and then him do his job. Its another when you're constantly giving the ball away, not doing much of anything once the ball crosses half field.

His hold up play was awful today. The only excuse I’m willing to give him is that he has no support. Our wingers hide the whole game. He thrives off people close to him playing 1-2s and nobody was near him today. But still, he has to play better.

Think he had 0 shots on target from 0 shots. Mason had a shot a few minutes after coming on.

The hunger and movement is missing.

You can be a casual player but you have to perform or else people will turn on you quickly. Berbatov is a perfect example and his numbers and play were far better than Tonys.

He played in a far better system. When Martial arrived here the football suited him, then LVG placed him out wide and his goals slowly decreased. Then came the Stupid One who wanted him to focus on defensive duties out wide.
A two striker system is what will bring out the best of Martial but none of the managers seem to realize this

Whether it's in a front 2 or 3, Martial needs a foil to complement and play off of him. He had with Rashford and Martial was effective in that setup. But since he went down, the logical move would have been to play Greenwood more in tandem with him but somehow Ole is still shy pulling the trigger on that.
Hopefully Ighalo will help in that capacity: it's funny how it seems to be regarded as someone who will possibly supplant Martial, when in reality the ideal role for him would be to supplement him
Ole will still be able to rotate and with those 3 players he has options to play with but whenever Martial plays, he needs to have a partner up top with him. It's been crystal clear in the past few games with no Rashford available next to him.

The question then becomes, is Martial good enough to shape a system around as there’s no other reason to play a two striker system?

It all depends on what we do this summer but if we somehow land Sancho, Martial needs to either show up the full season or be cut loose/given competition.
