I disagree with Foudy, I am worried about the USW scoring. Basically an awkward deflection tonight is it? I know Vlatko was trying some players out but yikes.
Lightning delay with a little less than 20 minutes left. Delay must be at least 30 minutes. (You have to wait 30 minutes after the nearby lightning strike.)
Pretty heavy rain now: there is some rain, to say the least. #USWNT pic.twitter.com/x5rLcaRpX7— Meg Linehan (@itsmeglinehan) June 29, 2022 This delay could be awhile.
Rapinoe had a quiet 70 minutes. Pugh already looks much better than she did last game. Rodman is tenacious but yet to beat them 1v1. She played a great should have been goal to Sanchez, but Sanchez is not a polished finisher. Sanchez has had a quieter night than last game. I feel like Smith's absence is noticeable. I liked Morgan at the 9 better than Hatch last game.
Update: warmups at 10:15 MT, game will resume at 10:27 MT. #USWNT— Meg Linehan (@itsmeglinehan) June 29, 2022
We’ll be back on 📺 at 1225p ET as we wait for lightning delay to end in Utah. Last 15 mins of #USWNT v Colombia starting soon on ESPN. pic.twitter.com/ICIqLKlPa6— Sebastian Salazar (@SebiSalazarFUT) June 29, 2022

Game ends 2-0 and with a bit of a shoving match. Hatch could have gotten a red card for hand to the face/neck, if the referee only gave it for the retaliation and hadn't seen the initial shoves back and forth. Her initial shoulder in, which got the yellow, was also totally unnecessary. Probably would have been a red, regardless, if this was a major tournament game with VAR.
Felt more like she went to push her away, but didn't realize how short the other player was... >shrug<
Attendance tonight is 16,077 at Rio Tinto. #USWNT— Meg Linehan (@itsmeglinehan) June 29, 2022 Not a bad game, but not the best heading into a qualifying tournament either. We're missing the final piece (final service and final shot) in the offensive third. They're going to have to do better at breaking down a low block in the next few games. At least an inexperienced backline probably got tested a bit more than they were expecting.
Okay I'm not into the soccer lingo as everyone else, what exactly is a "low block" all these commentators and former players talking about? Also, Hatch should have been given a red card but since it was like 2 seconds till the whistle, she got away with it. Can't do that at major tournaments though, hopefully she keeps her cool and gets the jab by next year.
Low block is usually a defensive alignment where the team sets up with say 2 banks of five with a low line of confrontation.
