That university is doing nothing for you are they? Last time I checked deaf people probably aren't too into radio broadcasts. I think for both examples you should have stuck with being blind.
The announcer actually got names right. Although, I could have lived without the mention of their past clubs during introductions.
Saying the ref stole this game from us is a bit of a stretch if you ask me. Dallas ran out a lineup of 60% reserves and we put out our "best 11." If we couldn't turn our domination of possession and quality chances in to goals then we deserved to lose. The 10 minutes before Danny's red card we had about 3 quality opportunities to grab the winner, Marshall's flashing header and 2 shots wide by Danny on really nice footalling plays, if any of those go in, Dallas is done. None did and we lost our composure and the game ended in farce. Danny's foul was borderline but I can see it being a red. If he just tackles the guy, yellow, but raising the foot and hitting the guy high on the leg gives the ref the ability to up the ante. Frankie is an idiot. Veteran leadership by @ss. I don't like the sub of Glenn for Sutton that moved Martino to the left. Glenn was owning Rhine all night (no support once he beat him though due to Knox being slow to see the play develop). I would have liked to see Glenn moved up top and Sutton come in for Knox. The Crew wasted opportunities and Frankie gave away any chance there was to get to penalties, end of story. Oh, one last thing. What is it now 5 games for Vasquez and better in each one. Fantastic last night.
I always mix up those words. I don't know how, I just do. Probably the bad wiring in me ol' noggin. So, first you correct me in the "Practice" thread, and now this? I'm going to have to start reading my posts over before I post them on BS... Or else I'll face the typo wrath of DRW; I'm visually shaking right now. You got me on alert!
I agree with Z that "the ref decided the match" is a stretch. I didn't see Danny's tackle -- the consensus around me was that yellow was deserved and red was harsh. OK, fair enough. But it's hard to blame the referee for what Frankie Hejduk did next. Salazar had absolutely no choice on that play. If that's not a red card, what is? As for Frankie... I'm appalled. I like Frankie Hejduk. He's one of my favorite guys on this team. I like his hustle, his speed, his attitude, and his leadership. He's dedicated, determined, and durable. But that tackle last night was absolutely atrocious. You're down a man in extra time in a single elimination tournament, and that's the time you pick to make a statement? A hard, lunging, two-footed, straight-legged, cleats-up, over-the-ball tackle? That was reprehensible. And he was talking s**t to the guy before the referee was even done blowing the whistle. I hate seeing a guy who represents my club, and my national team commit that kind of tackle. If that had been an MLS match, with cameras and video readily available, Hejduk might miss three matches. If I'm Bob, I sit him saturday anyway. And by the way: to the fans in front of me (you know who you are): Frankie Hejduk being a d*** doesn't make Knox Cameron getting pulled down sixty yards away from goal worthy of a red card. Get a clue.
I believe that was the game that produced the Jon Busch quote, "I'm glad he [the ref] got injured. That's not being mean, that's just being honest."
As I understand it, the attendance for this match was not reported. If someone made me guess why, it would be because current OSU students could get in free by showing student ID, so they have no way to count them. Just eyeballing the crowd, I'd guess in the 4000 ballpark. Again, eyeballing the part of the crowd I sat near, there weren't an awful lot of OSU students either. After all, it's not their regular season either. And now I'm going to really stick my neck out. That was a non-regular-season event (but something that did count, not just a pure exhibition) held on a weeknight with unfavorable weather (it was brutally hot) somewhere other than the usual venue (but not an undesirable one) where the tickets were not part of the season ticket package (but not expensive either.) There weren't mom & the kids, youth teams, business outings, businessmen schmoozing clients, or any of that other crowd-enhancing stuff last night, just the core fan base. IMHO if you held a similar event for the Blue Jackets or the Buckeyes basketball team, you'd get very roughly the same size crowd. Their core fan base isn't that dissimilar from ours, in quantity or quality. And the Ohio State University football team would draw 15-20 times as many, assuming only that my imaginary alternate universe stadium would accomodate that many.
yeah.. their wasnt probably 10,000.. i was just thinking of all the noise.. 4,000-6,000 aprx.. i had to move once because i had these annoying college girls making jokes about camel toes.. and i couldnt concentrate on the game. when i did i found a better view though.
I get your drift. I remember the night they won the USOC in Crew Stadium there probably weren't 5,000 people. Crummy night too if I'm not mistaken. No Crewzers, no halftime entertainment, no U13 girls teams from Mansfield, no Gahanna rec league. Just the hard core. A wonderful night because everybody was on the same page. EVeryone there was passionate about the Crew. It wasn't a social event or a family activity, it was just a bunch of people who dig the Crew. USOC is like that. It's a great event for the serious fan.
OSU students still had to get a ticket. They had to show their Buck-Id card and got their free ticket in exchange. I agree with a 4000-5000 estimate.
Well, they made my daughter go to the ticket line and get a ticket after she showed her Buck-Id card. Must have been dependent upon who saw the card.
Well, here's a new twist: Someone named "Dave Devereux" (which sounds like a Porn Film name) supposedly writes for the Columbus Dispatch. He filed a "special" to the Dallas News on the USOC game: "The referees and FC Dallas sprinted toward the tunnel, covering their heads from the debris being hurled from the stands. " http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/soccer/stories/080405dnspofcdlede.181b16a9.html So who is "Dave Devereux" (or Lance Lodgepole in his earlier films) and why is he saying these things about "debris" being "hurled" at the referees and players? And is he the one actually responsible for getting all the facts wrong? What's up here?
where did the debri come from? thats what I want to know.. debris is a unusual word to use their. frankly, i could of hurled my nachos.. but they cost me six bucks.. boy tho would eddie johnson's rich ass look pretty damn stupid with nacho cheese on his ugly mug.
What? Did I miss something? The worst I saw was Salazar walking past several middle fingers only inches from his face. I didn't see anyone throw anything. Props for not double-checking facts before you report them, Dave.
"Dave Devereux" search on Dispatch.com yields high school reports, as well as OSU Women's soccer, Columbus Clippers, Capital University. I'd like to see this "debris" I got an email from a Crew fan. Here's a bit of interest: BTW- I REALLY want to compliment you and the other N'Enders for your behavior at Jesse Owens Field the other night. Seriously, you guys got everyone to vent (in unison!) their anger at the refs without any flying bottles or violence at that horribly-reffed match Wed night. You guys were awesome leaders. (snip) ...and I thought for sure I would see some flying Dasani bottles & spit, or possibly people jumping over the non-guarded railings to the field. I think your group went a long way to keeping the fans just using their expletives & middle fingers. I'd like to see these people calling this stuff "a riot" on south campus 6 hours after OSU Michigan ends. There was no riot. Nobody jumped any fence. No one was physically hurt. And Crew staff and players were apparently proud of our support. Then again, if all "Dave" writes about is Capital Unversity and high school stuff, I can see why he'd think middle fingers and some booing might be considered a riot in his happy land. I've never been to a CU game, but i'm sure it's quite tame. Mimimal booing, probably a lot of "golf-style" claps, etc.
Or is CBC pseudonymous for Dirk Diggler? Seriously, that's quite a charge - that Columbus fans threw things at the referees. Particularly because: a) No one else, from either side, saw any such thing and b) Neither "Dave" nor CBC repeated this claim in The Columbus Dispatch. c) USSF would most certainly put sanctions in effect anyplace where their game officials were "assaulted". It's something they take VERY seriously. VERY seriously. Is there one sensationalized story told out-of-town and another, different tale told at home where people know the truth? This is really quite outrageous.
SCN's postgame: http://scn.matchnight.com/scn-entry.cfm?page=ARTICLE&article=1039 I noticed the position switching a little, but I didn't know where Mina(O?) and some of the others normally play.
