With the Hex schedule released, I think it's time to start discussing our plans. There's little doubt that the game will be in Columbus, Ohio at Crew Stadium. How are we going to get there? Bus, or plane? Where are we going to stay? Anyone want to share a room? How long is our trip going to be? How much time do I need off? What are the prices? Do I need to start planning a bank robbery? It seemed like we waited too long for final information on the USMNT v. Cuba game, so lets get this out there now for those of us who need advanced warning to collect funds and request time off.
Tueday: 7:00pm - Leave Tuesday evening after work from Seaport Drive Wednesday 3:00am - Arrive in Columbus 3:30am - Check in motel, sleep it off 1:00pm - Head to Crew Stadium to start tailgating 7:00pm - Watch the USMNT crush those impotent Mexicants 9:00pm - Celebrate the victory at the tailgate Thursday 12:00am - Arrive back at hotel to sleep it off. 11:00am - Stumble back onto buses and start heading home 7:00pm - Arrive back at Seaport Drive Friday 8:00am - Try to readjust to the working world. Legendary.
8 hours of stupid songs each way - skip the hotel. 8 hours on the bus, 6 hour tailgate, 2 hour game, 8 hours on the bus.
Yeah, I think we can do a bus. Getting 2 days off is going to be rough but I'll try. Cutting 2 nights in a hotel will certainly reduce the costs a lot...
a charter bus might be nice. or we could caravan out there. road trips are always fun it looks like flights right now are around $120 round trip from philly. (non-stop) i'm up for spending a couple of nights out there. i'd need a roomie though. preferably one that can sleep through anything as i'm told i can rattle walls within 4 ft of me.
Agree on cutting down on hotel time. Leave Wednesday morning at 5 or 6AM. Get to C-bus around 2 or 3. Leave post game to come home and be back by 8AM at the latest, can still work a half day on Thursday. Just make sure the bus driver(s) have lots of Red Bull and No-Doze and pray to your favorite or least objectionable deity there is not a blizzard or ice storm.
As someone who went to this game in 2005, I say go for it either way. You'll never see a better USA crowd than inside that stadium. /sadly the wednesday game most likely keeps me out this year.
Do we have a ballpark cost for this? If it's like $150-$200 or so for bus/tickets/lodging, I could probably do that. Also, I don't mind sleeping on the bus/ hotel room floor/back seat of someone's car. Just sayin'.
Lets figure out if we can score a group plane ride. I've been on a bus with most of you, and if I have to hear that the "Football Factory" opens May 19 one more time, I swear to Gods I will be a fan of Red Bull New Jersey!
We will have different movies for this trip. We can turn this into a 24 hour trip. 8 hours out, 6 hour tailgate, game, 8 hours back.
I put in a RFQ with a bus company already. Hopefully we can think of a good place to leave from, like in Plymouth Meeting or KoP that's convenient to highways in a lot of directions and is also on the way.
I'd rather have an hour more tailgate time and go see the construction progress some other day. Or look at the webcam
