He needs at least 3 years of residency before he can apply for citizenship.

If his residency started in 2019, wouldn’t that mean he can apply in 2022?

Wouldn't he have to live in the USA for five years before becoming eligible after those 3 years? I doubt Rossi is in MLS for 8 years.

He played a lot of youth games but it is hard to tell if any of them provisionally cap tied him. If they did, he can't file a one time switch to the USA.

My wife had to wait 3 years and may not leave the country for more than 60 days in any calendar year otherwise that year doesn't count toward their residency.. Some applicants have to wait 5 years after they obtain a green card, not sure why.

I think if you marry a US citizen is 3 years residency IF you don't have a checkered past then is also 5 years. If you get a green card by any other means then is 5 years. I would need to check.

I meant for FIFA. You have to become a citizen and reside in the country for 5 years. Any move for Rossi to another country ends that clock.

I think Rossi will end up with Uruguay and why I say that? Because of the reason they need strikers to build around especially once Cavani and Suarez retire internationally then Uruguay is basically ********ed so for that reason I can see them being interested in Rossi

I think Diego Rossi will end up playing for Uruguay, since he's Uruguayan, from Uruguay, has played for Uruguayan youth teams, will likely be sold from MLS to Europe in the next year, and has shown no interest in becoming and American citizen or play for the US.

I don't think Rossi is good enough for Uruguay. Taking into account the ages of Cavani and Suarez, there is a lot of competition with their national team for Rossi to be picked and he can easily be picked for some games and be cap tied like (Neven Subotić was at Serbia) but he can go on for many years with the USA. Just saying.....

3 Years Only if the spouse is a US Citizen, otherwise, it is 4 years 9 months is the qualifying point to apply for Citizenship, at that point, USCIS will take its "own" time, With Trump Administration, they have significantly slowed down the process.

4 years 9 months, if your spouse is not a US Citizen.

Although it was a different time, Preki was 33 , Roy Wegerle 28 and Thomas Dooley 31 when they all first played for the USMNT and altogether had around 150 caps. If Rossi doesn't get picked for Uruguay and doesn't get sold, he can definitely get his citizenship and feature for the nats.

If not for 2022 but easily for 2026 and depending on his form, maybe even for 2030. All national teams love goal scorers and he would be a huge help.

I don't know if he would make the 23.

But playing this out a bit longer. Rossi played in qualifying for the U20 WC. That most likely means he is provisionally cap-tied to Uruguay. He would have had to have been a USA citizen, prior to that tournament in 2017, in order to file a one time switch. He wasn't, and thus is ineligible for the USA.

I don’t think that’s correct. Unless another rule has changed recently, I don't believe youth national teams and youth World Cups count against being cap tied.

Neven Subotić played in the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship for the USA and also appeared for he US -U-20 before choosing Serbia. Sadly he is now 31 and hasn’t been capped in 7 years or since he was only 24. I’m sure he probably now wished he chose the USA. I think he had a problem with Thomas Rongen.

But Subotic was already eligible for Serbia when he represented the US. Sounds like that's not the case for Rossi.

I know FIFA made a rule in regards to choosing a given country before a 23rd birthday but I think even that rule has since been changed. I still think though as long as you don’t represent any country at the senior level at a WC or Confederation tournament and their qualifiers , you are eligible to play for any team you are a citizen of. Jermaine Jones played some friendlies for Germany but also didn’t pick the USA until an advanced age.

Subotic was a Serbia citizen when he played for the USA at the U17 WC. Therefore, until he was capped in a senior tournament, he could file a one time switch.

Rossi was not a USA citizen at the time he played. Therefore, he can't switch. In other words, you can only switch to a country you were eligible for when you were provisionally cap tied.

Jonathan Gonzales played in the U20 qualifying. But he was eligible for Mexico when he did it. Therefore, he could switch.

It was reported that he didn't like it when players spoke Spanish in the locker room. He felt excluded.

Our best XI is taking shape...

    —————Sargent—————-
    Pulisic——-Reyna———Musah
    ——McKennie—Adams————
    Robinson————————Dest
    ———-Brooks——Miazga———
    —————-Steffen——————-

Not in my XI but could still figure...
    -Turner, or some other goalkeeper.
-Reggie Cannon. Fullback options after that are bleak. Especially since Yedlin and Chandler fell off a cliff. Thank God that Dest can play left or right back.
-There’s a number of Meh options at center back that could replace the Above Meh line defenders we have now. They are Long, Zimmerman, Richards, Alvarado, McKenzie, Robinson, Carter-Vickers, Palmer-Brown, and maybe a few others.
-It’s a crapshoot who backs up the midfield.
-Weah, Ledezma, Konrad, Aaronson, Llanez, and a few others make for an exciting list of attacking depth.

    Notes:
-Cannon could play right back, Dest could play left.
-Reyna could play wing, and Musah could be part of the three man midfield.
-If Richards emerges, he will unlikely unseat Miazga.

Other than that, that looks to be our best XI. We still don’t know who our captain will be, and we need to solidify our depth. But at this point, I want to see our best XI get as many reps as they can get between here and 2022.

Where's Morris? Frankly he should be a lock starter. He's not even on the "could still figure" list. The best performing player with the NT this cycle, which is what matters the most. And anyway was an MVP candidate in the domestic league, so in form to boot. Nothing indicating he's fallen off. If anything he's grown even more.

I like Morris but he ain’t Pulisic nor is he McKennie, Reyna, or Adams. Hell, he’s probably not Musah or Sargent either. And it’s extremely likely he’s going to be surpassed by Aaronson, Ledezma, Konrad, Weah, and maybe a few others very soon. He’s still in the picture, but he’s the furthest thing from a lock.
