Then why not hire a foreign coach

    Berhalter - 19 games/12 wins/5 loses/2 ties
    Sarachan - 12 games/3 wins/5 loses/4 ties
    Arena - 18 games/10 wins/2 loses/6 ties
    Klinsmann - first 17 games(end of 11, all of 12)/9 wins/4 loses/4 ties
    Bradley - 2007 18 games/12 wins/5 loses/1 tie

So as you can see he is pretty much even with the others outside of Sarachan. Plus, Berhalter has not have full use of his assets due to constant rotating injuries.

Record doesn't mean much unless you add in quality of opponent and type of match (which ELO does).

Ben Lederman. 19 YO ( so not THAT young but) very skilled. A true 10 who spent 6+ years at La Masia (Barca Academy) now playing in the Polish 1st div. Cant for the life of me figure out why this kid keeps getting looked over.

Goalpost moving gotcha. What's the old saying, you can only play who's in front of you.

The team played in the Gold Cup of which they don't get to chose who they play. They also only lost one game, the final against Mexico who is a better team.

They played in the Nations League of which they don't get to choice their opponents. They only lost one game against Canada in Toronto.

Concacaf is not a strong confed. There are a lot of small countries that aren't quality opponents and that hurts ELO. We have to deal with that in the Gold Cup but now we have to in the Nations League as well. Add that to the fact UEFA is making it impossible to schedule friendlies because of their own Nations League. Plus who knows how much say Berhalter has in scheduling friendlies as well.

lol. It’s a demonstrably terrible performance. If a team drops from the EPL to the championship and has the same record, no ones says “they’re doing the same”.

we’ve dropped significantly in ELO points because we’ve lost to poorly ranked teams that we should beat.

I'll admit I haven't been happy with the team since Berhalter took control either. Of the 5 loses only 2 are lower in ELO; Canada is 58 and Jamaica is 60. We are 37 for reference. The other 3 loses are to Mexico twice (14th) and Venezuela (20th). We did tie Uruguay (9th).

The whole Berhalter tenure we have pretty much played nothing but tomato cans though.

If USA remotely wants to go anywhere they need to fire Berhalter but that's just my personal opinion

Our talent is more than enough to finish top 3/4 in concacaf irrespective of coach but we should expect to win the Hex or be very close to that. Anything less is massive underperformance.

I get that but let's be serious here for a second USA cannot afford to get lazy, complacent or at the very least arrogant. I mean this USA team this particular version of the squad namely put by past players said this team is probably the most arrogant USA team in recent memory and that could be a good thing but in 2018 it showed to be a bad thing because you guys didn't qualify

However, I will give you guys this you guys have gotten younger

    before the WCQ failure,
it was expected that usa would be 1st or 2nd in concacaf,
    for and in, everything.
only acceptable team to take that #1 spot is mexico.

    during Donovan and Dempsey years,
thats pretty much what was happening.

    after the failed WCQ,
and especially since we are missing high quality 24 to 28 year olds,
    we are going very young.

that #1 or #2 spot in concacaf,
    is not longer realistic.
we are (and should be) very young.
we need to give them every opportunity to produce and develop.

i dont have any confidence right now.
at least the F wcq is almost worn off,
and excitement for these youngs is growing

Exactly what I would expect. We should not get hung up on what the rules were BEFORE coronavirus. All of those earlier pronouncements are clearly subject to change now.

Are we at the point where we know the player pool for 2022, in the sense that all the players that are going to make it are known quantities?

    I’d say 75-90%

There’s bound to be a few shake ups in this squad simply due to the course of time and the fact that the team is still unsettled, young, and injury prone.

There are still a few questions that need to be resolved...

#1 Is Dest going to play on the left or the right? If he’s on the right, who plays on the left? And who’s out on right? Yedlin? Cannon? Chandler?

#2 How do we maximize our key players, or projected to be our key players - Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, Reyna, and Sargent

#3 What’s our best CB pairing?

#4 Who is going to captain this team?

#5 Who are the new young faces going to be? Konrad, Uly, Pomykal, Antonee, Aaronson, etc.

#6 Who are going to be the older faces introduced/reintroduced into the team? Morales? Chandler? Holmes?

#7 What’s the back up keeper situation? Especially since Steffen is injury prone? Like it or not Guzan needs to be in that equation. But then whom?

#8 Unfortunately, who is going to fall off a cliff?

I’d add that I believe a lot will evolve during the course of WCQ. That said I don’t see our group changing that much...

My 23 for qualifying (in order of ranking):
    GK Steffen, Guzan, Turner
    RB Yedlin, Cannon
CB (2x) Brooks, Miazga, Long, Alvarado
    LB Dest, Antonee
MF(2x) McKennie (CPT), Adams, Morales, Pomykal
    AM Lletget, Reyna
WF (2x) Pulisic, Morris, Weah, Llanez
    FW Sargent, Altidore

    ——————Jozy——————
    Pulisic——————————Morris
    ——————Lletget——————-
    ——-McKennie———-Adams———
    Dest————————————Yedlin
    —————Brooks—-Miazga———-
    ———————Steffen——————-

    First subs:
    1. Sargent (Altidore)
    2. Reyna (Lletget)
    3. Weah (Morris)

Note: I start Jozy over Sargent to bring some experience, and the fact I wouldn’t want to make a double sub if Jozy gets hurt.

My Reserves (in order of ranking):
    GK Hamid, Johnson, Horvath
    RB Chandler, Lennon, Araujo
    CB Zimmerman, Miles, Palmer-Brown, Richards
    LB Vines, Ream, Gloster, Gasper
MF Yuiell, Johnny, Otasowie, Sands, Durkin
AM Aaronson, Ledezma, Green, Miljevic, Mihailovic
WF Holmes, Arriola, Konrad, Vassilev, Boyd, Saucedo, Gioacchini, Sabbi
    FW Ferreira, Zardes, Ebobisse, Soto

I want him gone. I feel hopeless about his tenure. If he can’t find a way to put Adams and McKennie in CM spots, or see how his system has made decent players look bad, or let go of the notion that more than 30% of the squad should come from MLS—all that makes me feel hopeless about playing to the team’s potential.

Just curious, in February 2019 , Diego Rossi earned his U.S. green card which qualified him as a domestic player for MLS roster purposes. Can he gain US citizenship and get a cap or is it impossible? He is only 22 and was never cap tied with Uruguay unless you count youth squads. If not for 2022 how about for 2026?
