http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?inewsid=36491 "The squad will begin training camp on June 1 in Washington, D.C., and will depart on June 11 for their home base in Lyon." So where's it going to be?
It could be at one the following three sites: George Mason in Fairfax City; George Washington Mt. Vernon campus; or Georgetown University. On the DC United front: While DC United loses Convey & Stewart (congratulations to both), DC United retains Rimando (Howard & Cannon).
...and retain Olsen. Meanwhile, DC's opponent Jun 7 is Chicago, so possibly, maybe, hopefully we might get one goal.
Aren't the second two both turf? Seems like they'd probably just go back to the nice natural grass fields at GMU again.
I think you are right. Then GMU will probably be it (unless of course we get prolonged periods of rain again ). I have been there before for the open practices.
This is perfect timing. My sister loves the MNT (and DC) and her birthday is in a few days. Going to an open practice would be perfect (and cheap).
I snuck in to the 'closed' practices before the Honduras WCQ, and Bruce Arena personally invited me up to the side to watch and later said he wished more kids my age had gone to the effort I had. I was also invited back to his house that night to watch soccer with Landon Donovan and some others.
This is much better than DeezNutz (who I think was shown red) talking about his cousin who wanted to get with the players.
1. Metros suck. 2. I don't think HDC is quite finished yet. 3. They've got a game in Richmond on the 8th. It makes much more sense to train on the East Coast. (DC is 90 minutes from Richmond.) 3b. DC is on the East Coast, which is closer to Europe, which is where the Confed Cup is. (not as important) 4. The Irish Times is a good time. I enjoy being there with the beer and what-not. 5. Metros suck.
Your first point is right on. Your second point is not relevant to me, because that's not what I claimed. (For what I claimed regarding the team from new jesrsey, please refer to points 1 and 5).
I think your heartbeat is going to be irregular during the Conferations Cup, and more importantly, your post will become reality. Metros SUCK! DC United. USA #1!
If you look at who got called up for the MNT, it looks like we won't be in too bad shape for some of the games while Bobby and Earnie are away. Chicago loses Boca, Beasley and Armas, Cowlumbus also loses 3 players (though not McBride, interestingly).
I emailed USSF and they said none of the practices are open...I guess this means I have to walk around the baseball fields to watch them work.
There's an access road right off of Braddock which is behind the fields they use. It should work fine. I wish I had known about it last time.
I was up in Fairfax on Sunday and figured out where it would be and the ways to get in, I just need to know when they are there, because I don't want to spend my whole day sitting in a parking lot at GMU.
Well they were there this morning and left at noon. Right before the rain started ... So they might do that again, or might look at the weather forecasts and wait until the afternoon when it shouldn't be raining as much.
