Would be interesting. Those teams probably have some higher ceiling/potential academy guys than we do....but we have guys with a lot more professional experience. Eventually even those team will be joining MLS Next Pro anyway so we will see soon enough.
Well, we'll see. Roster rules in USL and Next Pro are totally different. Will they sign the majority of those players to Next pro contracts.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/seven-mls-affiliated-clubs-to-join-mls-next-pro-in-2023 It's really just that some of the clubs who'd invested in owning/operating USL franchises took an extra year to join MLS Next Pro. Other than the delay, it'll be no different than last year when some MLS run USL sides moved to Next Pro. Those USL franchise rosters will need to align with Next Pro roster rules next season. That'll probably mean a lot of turnover on those rosters, but time will tell.
2023 MLS will have 29 teams i think with 20 mls next pro teams +7 would be 27/29 who are those 2 Clubs and what is their plan if any ? Do USL players make more money ? Just think eventually mls next pro will surpass the USL. Is that fair to assume ?
MLS Next Pro will have 28 teams next year with 27 MLS affiliates and 1 unaffiliated (Rochester). The only MLS teams that will not have teams in MLS Next Pro next year are DC United and Montreal.
I looked up why those teams aren't going to MLSNP. Still looking re: Montreal, but Loudoun United's lease requires them to be a D2 team and MLSNP is D3. They're looking at a second farm team in Baltimore as a workaround. https://theathletic.com/3296545/2022/05/05/dc-united-baltimore/
Pittsburgh Riverhounds pulling a ‘Crew’ tonight in the USL playoffs. Up 2 - 0 at Louisville City, gave up a goal in the 83rd minute, followed by a penalty in the 85th. Match is level at two, headed to extra time.
Surpass how? In what way? Personally, I don't think the two leagues have much overlap. MLSNP's business model is all about talent development. It doesn't have much interest in selling tickets, match-day concessions or corporate sponsorships, or hiring the staff required to do that work. USL is a league in the traditional sense whose business model requires that it generate revenue from tickets sold, concessions, merchandise, corporate sponsorships (and a small amount of revenue from a league-wide TV deal) in order to survive. Not to mention, there is almost zero overlap in market presence. Maybe MLSNP evolves in such a way that it starts to infringe on USL markets and the way it does business. But right now, that doesn't appear to be the plan.
I highly doubt it. There's actually a ban on producing merchandise (at least for the outright "2" teams. Pretty sure Rochester can make merch. Not sure about situations like the Tacoma Defiance.).
In quality of talent /coaching /play / salary the crowd is irrelevant like you said it’s a development league so all the stuff you mentioned is irrelevant.
