Very true, but I'm not counting Marcelo "Hide-In-The-Bushes" Vega.

Keep thinking--it's not a terribly obvious answer.

Dom was among the last cuts in '94...he carried a hamstring injury as I recall through the tail end of qualifying that just didn't come around in time to make the squad. Earnie Stewart took over his #8...and the rest is history.

The Quakes site says Dom was the USMNT's second-highest scorer in 1993 but underwent an emergency apendectomy just before the '94 World Cup squad was decided.

Thank you Dr. Quaker. I was confusing Dom's malady with the ailment that kept Claudio Reyna on the bench in '94.

    Hmmmm .. Shawn Medved ?
Funny last name, by the way: Medved, means "Bear" in Russian, and I guess in several other Eastern European languages as well :)

D'oh. Dayak played in some qualifiers, but not the cup.

However, I was correct about Espinoza, although it was a bitch to find proof on the web. He was on Mexico's WC94 team as a bench sub (some web sites list him as Eduardo Espinoza, his full name is Eduardo Misael Espinoza Padilla). Here's a link to a bio page for him...note it says "jugo el Mundial de Estados Unidos 94."

You're right about Espinoza making the trip to the 1994 World Cup, but I didn't count him because he didn't actually play. The question was about guys who played in a World Cup.

Likewise, Agoos went to the 1998 World Cup but sat on the bench the entire time.
