Plenty of very famous and popular teams such as the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox (home jerseys), Notre Dame, Penn State and USC have a policy where no names visible on the team jerseys. Those teams still do pretty well and most folks don't have any trouble identifying their players. Nothing to see here folks.
nope. But, there are a lot (hopefully) of American viewers who'll need a name on the back to tell who any of our players (save, maybe, Donovan) are. (the level of interest in U.S. soccer being a long way from the level of interest in the Celtics in the 60's; and, the level of ability of Bill Russell being a long way from the level of ability of any USMNT player) (insert comparison of Howard's/Russell's ability to hit the outlet pass....................... here)
If us core fans were enough, we'd be well ahead of where we are in the soccer world already. But the point is the core fanbase that knows who these guys are isn't enough. For the rest of them, making our guys look on TV like so many worker bees doesn't exactly boost our cause.
If they watch on TV, the inane commentators will probably get the names right ( no guarantees) you can't read the names live or on a small screen anyway. But you are right. I don't think there is any danger that a USMNT player will eclipse Bill.
Exactly. The last thing we need to do is confuse them. The people who seem to disagree seem to represent the view that everybody should know who these guys are, and if they don't, they're not watching anyway (or worth the effort).
lineup v. MEX: Howard; Cherundolo, Orozco Fiscal, Bocanegra (c), Castillo; Jones, Beckerman; Donovan, Bradley, Torres; Buddle

wow, as a Mexico fan that lineup sure is inviting. Well there will be goals scored tonight, thats a guarantee.
Fitness, the others were training with a team like Bradley or in season. Adu wasn't and it set him back. Klinsi said fit was an issue. This isn't a Bob Bradley. JK actually wants to play Adu.
