Crazy to think our starter for the first WC after 40 years was a 21 year old college player.

Goalkeepers on the 60-man provisional roster for the Nations League Final Four:
[I won't post the link because its in every other thread.]

    Drake Callendar
    Ethan Horvath
    Sean Johnson
    Diego Kochen
    Patrick Schulte
    Gabriel Slonina
    Zack Steffen
    Matt Turner

I think its pretty good, but just one thought. I'd prefer that Sean Johnson was sent a big thank you card and replaced in the pool at this point.

Roman Celentano would seem to be the odd-man out. Was at the January camp, and must simply have lost the battle with Schulte and Callendar. Brady is another exclusion, but he's much more likely to be at the U23 camp in March.

Love the inclusion of Kochen, even if he's unlikely to get the call. Just let him know the extent of our interest.

If we were more settled in terms of the starter I’d be interested in the idea of bringing in Kochen as the third keeper just as a recruiting inducement.

Not surewjat Callendar isn't doing in training, but he's definitely the one who stands on his head the most in league games

Who should we call up for Copa America?

Turner, Horvath, and Steffen most likely at this point in time.

Good thing it's not four that get called because we'd find one with a last name starting with I and then instead of a good nickname like MMA we'd have a most unfortunate nickname.

What I hope to see, and what we might see in March:

    Nations League: Turner, Horvath, Slonina

U23 pre-Olympics camp: Schulte, Brady, Kochen

Kochen's an interesting one. I'm sure we're in talks with him. If he's ready to commit to him, we have several avenues for him. We also have a U20 camp in March. He'd be the unquestioned starter with that group.

I think the question with Kochen is how committed is he. If he’s locked in you send him with the U20s where he’s the starter. You bump him up only if you have to as part of trying to recruitment. In that scenario I’d bring him with the full team as the fourth goalie who will train but won’t be on the roster.

Barca might not actually release him to the U23 or U20 camps. There's also that issue.

Is he committed? Is he going to be released for the youth camps?

This could be like when Canada put Aidan Morris on their Gold Cup provisional roster.
It can mean as much as simply letting the player know you're interested.

It's like Ben Cremaschi being on the provisional roster. He's out after hernia surgery and highly unlikely to be in any shape to be at camp in March. Why is he on there? I don't know, but its probably just to let him know how interested we are.

There’s a decent chance Barcelona would release him for the U20s given he did mostly get released for U17 camps when healthy.

And in some languages, "J" is replaced by an "I." ;)

“It seems Thomas Jefferson used the monogram T.I. on his personal belongings instead of T.J. That’s not so unusual, because the handwritten “I” and “J” were oftentimes difficult to distinguish from each other.

The two letters were virtually interchangeable in 18th century English. For example, an English dictionary published in the 1700s had just one section for both letters.”

Also, "J" didn't exist until 1524. It was the same as "I" before that.

Prior to 1524, the letter J only existed as part of an elaborate booby trap to prevent unworthy heathen adventurers from obtaining the Holy Grail.

    Maybe.

The U23 camp/match is in Montbéliard, France.
Not a monstrous trek from Barcelona..................

[I assume the game is at Sochaux's stadium but could be wrong about that.]

We don't know where the U20 camp is.

I'm happy either way. If he's at either camp, I'll be thrilled.

Is Gregg willing to give Steffen a look? Is Horvath gonna refuse a call up? He's only played a few games for Cardff but isn't the out and out no.1 as of yet. Seems risky to accept a call up half a world away simply to ride the bench.

Turner had a strong performance for Forest last night in the FA Cup vs United but considering the loss, he may not be playing for them again.

Former U17WC starter Adam Beaudry up a peg in Colorado.
Possible U20 CONCACAF starter, depending on the status of Kochen.

Horvath's been starting for over a month now while Turner's been on the bench for over a month. Anyone watching Steffen or Slonina to see how they're doing?

Apparently we have a third group of call-ups - the U-19s - convening in Morocco. The GKs …

    GOALKEEPERS (3):

Gavin Beavers (Real Salt Lake; Henderson, Nev.),

Julian Eyestone (Duke University; Dallas, Texas),

    Diego Kochen (Barcelona/ESP; Miramar, Fla.)

By the way, Julian Eyestone has left Duke. As far as we know, he's not signing a homegrown deal with Dallas.
There are rumors out there that he's training with Brentford, but we've yet to see or hear evidence of that.

Even though he just finished his first season at Duke, he's still only 17. Can't move to Europe yet.

Steffen has been getting abused. Definitely not one of the better keepers, thus far.
