Alamo Dome in Sep. Who wants to see SA in MLS sooner rather than later? Big game if true and get to see James. Road trip!
I can see the Scorpions be the 24th club. I think their main competition are Minnesota, Sacramento, Detroit and Las Vegas. They may also get a NFL team if the Raiders don't get a new stadium in Oakland or L.A.
I went to HS and College in SA so heck to the yeah!. I'm skeptical because SA always seems to get strung along on these type of things though. Hope it happens some time.
I'll go to the game. Not sure about Scorps getting into MLS with current owner and "non-profit" philosophy. But it's not like I've talked to any MLS owners about it so what do I know?
Imagine an MLS where Dallas and San Antonio are in the Western Conference and yet Garber and his think tank place Houston in the East after all the dust settles from expansion/Shitvas relocation!
Apparently Hartman is in talks with investors about Scorps, and with the city about expanding the stadium, not to mention the now ex mayor talked to Garber about SA. I think we could get a surprise all of a sudden from them MLS wise.
I'm absolutely in for this game. SA in MLS is another story. The league isn't adding another market that small. As for the Raiders, the money is on staying in California; where in California is another question.
Disagree. I don't think MLS will add many more but with the right conditions I can see them adding one more small market, especially San Antonio who is uniquely positioned to be very successful.
More successful than Sacramento? Or St. Louis? Or Indianapolis? Or San Diego? Or Phoenix? Or Minnesota? My point is that potential success in SA doesn't seem to be unique. With the size of the USA, and the number of markets that could be successful, I'm not sure I see MLS owners turning down 8-10 more franchise fee payments of 80-100m. Assuming some appreciation in franchise fees over the next 10 years stopping at 24 teams might be leaving a potential $1B on the table.
Even though you have me on ignore. I agree with you. I think as long as there are owners willing to pay $80-$100 million for teams, they will create reasons why not to stop expanding (we aren't like the Euro countries, more population, greater distances, we can support as many as 30, etc.).
No confirmation yet? edit: and where in San Antonio would an MLS team play? The Alamodome is way too big.
