Jorge Ramos (ESPNDeportes) is reporting that Klinsmann told him this morning over lunch that he's disappointed in Adu's club situation and that he most likely will not play tonight alluding to the fact that the kid isn't in great shape since he's been training by himself after the Gold Cup.

Other American players frozen out can usually still train under their club's supervision, but Adu has found himself at 2 clubs in the past 12 months where they don't treat their players like that.

He needs to get out of Benfica's clutches. For good.

I would very much like to know just what Benfica has against Freddy. That club just really seems to have it out for him.

If I were Freddy why not just buy out the rest of his contract?

Is that an option? If so, does he have that kind of cash lying around?

You'd have to think that it's a fairly sizable sum if the MLS isn't willing to shell out some cash to get him back. Either that or he doesn't want to return to the States and would rather toil in limbo.

Don't really understand this since he knew his club situation when he called him in and knew there was a VERY good chance nothing would be resolved in the week after the call up.

I doubt that he's sitting him for his club situation, but rather for his lack of fitness.

Could be more disappointed in his fitness, and was taking a chance on a potentially out of shape player.

Side note: Didn't Klinsi know that refusing to play Adu will result in the BigSoccer collective calling for his head?

Either way I think Klinsmann wanted to speak with him and what his plans are in incorporating Freddy into the team.

it's standard Benfica policy for all their players, but some have made it into a special Freddy-only situation in the past which isn't true

his contract at Benfica has prevented alot of teams from taking him on, his contract must be coming to an end soon.

monetarily it's been good for him, but business and opportunity wise it hasn't.

Too bad it's Chivas...Freddy alone can't pick up that team's attendance figures.

It's regular playtime, and he's got to be a bit humbled by all of this. Might light a fire.
