http://www.ussoccer.com/News/U-18-M...s-Names-Roster-for-January-Training-Camp.aspx There's some serious talent in Ft. Lauderdale right now...and in MLS academies. 17/24 players are in MLS academies/affiliates, not including Gall and Gaitan who're in pro-setups.
Surprised that James Hamilton Carlin, the 6-4 kid from South Carolina that leads the Academy in scoring (18 goals in 17 games) and is a 95 didn't get called in. Maybe ABMOD has a thing about really tall players.
maybe Carlin is not good enough. 3 surprising omissions: diego fagundez, russell canouse and Juarez right back from RSL. I know fagundez is not citizen and maybe no green card but he has been in camps multiple times in the past. Canouse in on German break so maybe he declined to go family skiing instead. This age group is a transitional group stuck in the middle and only meaningful tournament for them is milk cup in july 2012.
Glad to see a heavy MLS academy roster. Extra incentive to those who are in areas with MLS teams to join their academies. Also, LA showing their attacking depth across the rosters. Jose Villareal - U20 Mcbean - U20 Reygoza- U18 Dhillon - U18 Jaime Villareal - U18 Mario Rodriguez - Futsal Throw in Tilley and they've got some serious HG prospects (on top of those already signed)
Juarez was born on Jan 3rd, 1995. If he's really any kind of a prospect, he needs to start playing up with RSL's 94s.
Not to hi-jack this thread, but this just shows to me how much MLS needs to expand the reserve schedule. Teams loaded with prospects, need something for these kids to do once they turn 19 but aren't ready for the first team. Something to keep the momentum going.
Other players missing in action: Patrick Tshani - M - Anderlecht Piakai Henkel - M - PSG Kainoa Bailey - F - Cruzeiro Lynden Gooch - F - Santa Barbara Louis Bennett - M - Chicago Fire Julian Green - D/M - Bayern Munich lots of talent still out there.
I believe that this squad came entirely from the foreign based kids and the DA Select game players. Guys like Moseley and Carlin never stood much of a chance, nor did any non-DA kids. The USSF really likes to wear blinders.
Don't know much about the others but Julian Green seems like a kid who will only play for the U.S. if he doesn't make the German National team. Don't see him playing for any youth teams, hope I am wrong.
No kids playing in Mexico in this camp either. You got to assume at this point there are mexican americans playing in mexico good enough to be on this team. Maybe that will be another camp altogether?
Surprised Generation Adidas Cup Golden Boot Winner Kevin De La Torre didnt get the call up. 9 goals in 3 games? pretty impressing... thats what we lack a true goal scorer. When i saw the select game he wasnt playing in his position maybe has something to do with the suspension they gave him for leaving chivas... politics?
Diego F is not a surprise. He shouldn't be there. He is so far off that he would only be wasting a spot. If he is that good, he is gone. Folks need to come to terms with that.
Based on what? You might end up being right, but at least provide some sort of backup when declaring something as fact. To this point, I haven't seen anything to indicate it one way or the other.
Someone mentioned the USSF kinda gets blinders when it comes to these call-ups. The following won't change that perception. Of the 24 players in camp, one is a pro already (Zak Pfeffer). Of the other 23, all but one is currently listed as being with a US Soccer Developmental Academy team and the one who isn't, Romain Gall who apparently is on the books at L'Orient in France, used to be with RSL's academy in AZ and before that played with DC United in the SUM Cup. Counting Gall and Pfeffer, 15 of the 24 are or have been affiliated with MLS teams and their academies and two more play for academy teams affiliated with the Philadelphia Union. Of the remaining seven players, one - Paul Arriola - was formerly in residency in Bradenton, meaning all of six players could be considered outside the USSF/MLS system and none come from outside the USSDA.
I wouldn't call it blinders, I'd bet its more lack of resources. How many scouts do you think USSF has? Wouldn't the limited amount of games that are gonna be able to be seen be between DA teams which could potentially net a few future players. Or random local league in Topeka or Montgomery?
