This offseason's version of the list I made in 05. + new clubs * non-US based clubs MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER (D-I) IN - CD Chivas + - Chicago Fire - Columbus Crew - Colorado Rapids - DC United - FC Dallas - KC Wizards - LA Galaxy - Metrostars - NE Revolution - Real Salt Lake + - SJ Earthquakes OUT none - - - - - - - - - - A-LEAGUE (D-II) IN - Atlanta Silverbacks - Charleston Battery - Minnesota Thunder - Montreal Impact * - Portland Timbers - PR Islanders * - Richmond Kickers - Rochester Rhinos - Seattle Sounders - Toronto Lynx * - VB Mariners - Whitecaps FC * OUT - Edmonton FC - Calgary Mustangs - Syracuse FC - - - - - - - - - - UNCERTAIN (II to III) - Milwaukee Wave United - Utah Blitzz - - - - - - - - - - PRO SOCCER LEAGUE (D-II) IN - Charlotte Eagles - Cincinnatti Riverhawks - Harrisburg City Islanders - NH Phantoms - NOVA Royals - Pittsburgh Riverhounds - WM Pioneers - Wilmington Hammerheads OUT - San Diego Gauchos - California Gold } } } } } } } } { { { { { { { { Please let me know if I missed anyone or of any new information. Of note: there is talk (published in the Chicago Sun-Times) that the Midwest MISL clubs (Chicago, Milwaukee, and StL) may play an outdoor schedule with other regional teams (possibly including Minnesota) this coming spring and summer.
Actually the California Gold is going to the PDL. And it's kind of assumed that San Diego is out, there really hasn't been any thing announced with them. So maybe you should put them in the maybe list?
Your list looks pretty dead on for the A-league. PSL is still kind of up in the air from what Ive been hearing. Not much news coming out of those team's head offices about their future which is leaving a few fans uncertain. Wilmington have announced trial dates so I would guess they are a lock. The annual owners meeting is happening over the next couple days and there should be some more solid news about the team by Monday or Tuesday I would think. Their have been rumors of two Florida A-league teams but I don't think they are going to materalize by 2005. mikey
Here's a link to an article about the California Gold. http://www.modbee.com/sports/story/9230111p-10130454c.html Here's a link to San Diego's site. It looks like their planning on playing some where next year. They have a try out scheduled for January. http://sandiegogauchos.uploadmysite.com/ Some other pure speculation that is going around. 1. The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are going to be sold to the Washington Wild (a near by minor league baseball team). 2. The A-League is going to play a home and home schedule and fill in the schedule with PSL and PDL teams. 3. That a new group will be brigning a PSL team to Cincinati 4. A group is looking at putting a PDL & W-League team in Chicago and play at either North Park or Loyola.
Interesting, I wonder if that means a mini-league will be set up for these games or would they simply be exhibition matches?

Yes, former team - I was 'relieved of my duties' as of Sept. 1st, as the team could no longer afford to keep me. I don't know if I want to stay in soccer - it's been too uncertain for me.
I'd try and grab a spot with the Ajax Orlando organization. In the next two years they will make the jump into the first division and then after two years completion of playin in the first division they will make the jump into the MLS and will be sharing players directly from their Amsterdam youth squad and reserve sides. Orlando Ajax has a really exciting buisness venture going on that will make them a pretty solid entity for years to come.
Anyone else have more info about this? I live in St. Louis, but I'm too much of a purist to watch indoor games.
Is the MLS part something new? In everything that I've read, they had mentioned that they didn't have any desire to join MLS.
I know I will probably get a lot of flack for this but what about the BYU Cougars in the PSL? They were there last season... Utah Blitzz have disolved but I have heard nothing of the BYU side! any news...? oh yea... I am genuinely interested in Utah Soccer so before the out-of-work-comedians and magic underwear people start their Mormon, BYU & Utah Bashing. Give it a rest will ya?
BYU was in the PDL last season and they are still in it this next one. Last year there weren't many teams in the west (both PSL and PDL). So you had PSL playing PDL teams as part of their regular schedule. This also took place in the east. Here's link to the USL site that shows BYU in the PDL for this season. http://pdl.uslsoccer.com/home/86655.html You'll also notice that the two other PSL teams from last year San Diego and California have dropped down to the PDL.
