Tuesday August 12, 2014 Philadelphia Union vs FC Dallas 8 pm CT (Toyota Stadium, TX) Wednesday August 13, 2014 Chicago Fire vs Seattle Sounders 7:30 pm PT (Starfire Field, WA) So far no news regarding whether or not the semis will be televised I assume the games will be streamed at least, but MLSSoccer.com has no mention of it yet. Perhaps tomorrow there will be more info. My prediction is Dallas vs Seattle for the final.
http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/08/05/00/22/140805-usoc-final-draw says www.ussoccer.com will stream Chicago at Seattle.
Well for the sake of the Fire and Philly fans i hope I am proven wrong. Thank you for letting the thread know about the Philly stream It's disturbing how little respect this tourney gets-- here we are on the verge of the semis and we have to rely on internet streams... I wonder what it would take for US Soccer to be convinced that this tourney is worth investing in?
A willing and paying national media partner would help. Not that those are easy to come by. Chicken and egg question, regarding general/large interest in and media coverage of the USOC itself. Also the random scheduling/results nature of this open knock-out competition makes it a challenge, potentially, for a (big) media partner wanting to (or not) commit to (extensive, multi-round) coverage. And having said that, technology certainly is making "streaming" more and more like (traditional) "television" as the years pass.
Would have been nice if USSF would allow SUM to market the USOC, and then in turn somehow roll the TV rights to the Cup into the negoationas for MLS/USNT games.
Articles on MLSSoccer.com about the semis: FC Dallas vs Philly Union Match Preview http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...hia-union-us-open-cup-semifinal-match-preview Will Seattle have Yedlin available for Open Cup Match? http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...e-if-deandre-yedlin-will-be-available-semis-a
The Seattle vs Chicago semi will be streamed live and free on ussoccer.com as the "match of the round." Don't really understand the lack of love for Dallas vs Philly, but one semi on ussoccer.com is better than none. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/08/11/13/20/140811-usoc-semifinal-preview
Well to be fair once you are the quarter final stage you are pretty much guaranteed MLS teams, so everything from that point on should be of some value. Hell FSC would show early stage English Cup matches, we're talking two conference sides playing each other. Does GolTV have the final this year? I am not sure if I have that as an available channel , of course if it is played here I won't have to worry.
It's amazing how the media and business and soccer work (or all work together, or not) in this country. Will be interesting to see what, if anything, concerning the USOC was a part of the SUM deals with their national media partners for MLS/USSoccer content for 2015-2022.
Strictly my own opinion, but the game so far has been brutal. It's hard to believe either of these 2 teams have made it this far.... P.S. Game picked up with the 1-1 tie at around the 80th minute--it's a little early still but we may be looking at extra time.
I guess i bought the rumor that there was no stream, didn't realize this was on anywhere. Plenty of seats available, huh? Hard to say this tournament needs better TV coverage when the fans don't care.
There are 7,200 people watching the YouTube stream, which is surprisingly high. It's also very much a chicken and egg thing. You could also apply the same logic to a lot of mid-week league games.
