Seemed like they had that one really fast defender marking Oduro the whole game. He did a good job shutting him down until the goal, when Oduro started sprinting with the ball like he was going to try to beat the defender to the endline, but then cut it back and curled the ball far post. (I didn't expect him to do that.) I was at exactly the wrong angle to get a good look at the shot, though, so I'd like to see some replays if they get posted.
As soon as the whistle blew we headed out into the parking lot, turned right on 71st street, and were greeted by 2 very slow moving trains, did a u-turn, and went around via 63rd...I can't wait till that fix that shit. Richmond was made better due to the lack of calls against them, and our guys looked very tired to start the game...if it wasn't for Nyarko's penalty, and Oduro's beautiful goal, it might have been a different story. I think we would have been better off playing our bench...but hey, we won! ...and now it's down to one game...and this is our Cup, for we are... Kings of the Cup!
Odoru got the snot whacked out of him- his face probably looks like he was in a boxing match, as he got hit there more than once last night Not understanding the subs lately- Frank pulled Grazzini at the half, but then didn't sub Chavez in until way late in the game On to Seattle!
Chavez only made it in to take Odoru out. The was no strategy in it. I would have liked to see him go in for Grazzini.
i hear you. i turned to my wife about the 80th minute and said, i cant believe this is what its come down to for this team, time wasting against a lower division club when our best team is on the field... it was not the most impressive win, but a win none the less.
"Looks like we have to go through Seattle to get our 5th Open Cup. Bring it on." I'm okay with playing Seattle. Like the Fire, Seattle has always taken the USOC seriously and respects the tournament.
We won. No comments about anything else. It would have been nice if we had the final at home. I read where neither DC or Seattle have played an away Open Cup game for years, doesn't seem right.
It was just under 9K. I think it was 8,909 or something like that. It was DC, the crew were last year.
I actually meant the other guys- I figured there was some reason he pulled Grazzini out that soon. The last couple of games, no, or at the most one, sub until very late in the game- way too late for the sub to get into the game and make any difference. Last night was pretty grueling, esp. to Oduro, thought Frank would have put some fresh legs in 65th or 70th minute.
The years we won we hosted a majority of games at home as well. Other teams' fans (ie. the wons that lost in the final) certainly complained about that. It is what it is.
the late subs are time-wasting subs i guess klopas is using at least 10 of 11 guys that start as long as he can
I know Portland hosted Seattle last year and the previous year, so it's not like they outbid everybody. RSL outbid them for the semifinal too, but ended up losing to Dallas. DC, on the other hand, has hosted 17 straight Open Cup games dating back to 2008. I think I remember a comment from their GM or someone else in their front office a while back about how the Open Cup is the easiest route to the CCL, so they are clearly willing to pay more than anyone else.
4 Sure, I woulnd not mind the FIRE doing the same as DC and Seattle and making the Open cup a high (even top) priority, just my opinion.
