OK...third round let's do this! No one thought we'd win one, let alone two. Now we're playing the MLS! http://www.lagalaxy.com/content/radio-broadcasters Galaxy radio broadcast info!
Lyell sent me an email stating he'd get back to me...so he is working on it. I also sent an email the the LA Galaxy this morning to see what they're doing. If nothing else, we can listen on the net.
I don't know what they're doing. I'm'a call them. OK...called them. There will be no television broadcast of the game, but it will be announced on 1220 AM. http://hometownstation.com/
OK...scratch all that. They're telling me KHTS FM in San Diego....still working on getting this info.
I wonder how many will show up at the Home Depot Center to watch a division 2 team? If we're lucky LA will field a weak side and some Chivas fans will show up to cheer for our boys.
OK...as best as I can tell... We're screwed. I was told KWKU 1220 in Los Angeles, a Spanish only radio station, will be broadcasting the game...but they seem to have no webpage...let alone internet streaming. I will call them later.
Here's the response from the LA Galaxy customer service. Hi Nik, The match tomorrow, Galaxy vs. St. Louis, will not be televised or on the radio. The Galaxy, however, will be running commentary on our website at lagalaxy.com. Yours in Soccer, LA Galaxy Customer Service -----Original Message----- From:battra Sent: Monday, June 28, 2010 8:35 AM To: Galaxy Customer Service Subject: AC St. Louis @ LA Galaxy To whom it may concern, I am contacting you from St. Louis about the match between our two clubs tomorrow. I am wondering what media coverage you'll have, TV, radio, etc and what methods will be available for us to watch/listen. There are a large number of fans here in St. Louis that wish to supprort our team. Your prompt reply is greatly appreciated. S Sent on the Sprint(r) Now Network from my BlackBerry(r)
I guess we're not worth their time. ******** 'em. I hope we shock the hell out of them and pull out the upset!!
The team takes this game seriously because winning the cup means an invite to the Champion's League. It's the fans and the media who could care less about hosting a second-division club (I know this is beating a dead horse, but if this game was in St. Louis. . .)
OK...back this up a second. Granted when it comes to all the Tourneys and what nots...I'm still learning here...but when you say Champions League.... What exactly are we talking about?
The problem is that the MLS players still aren't getting compensated properly for Open Cup or Champions League. So the MLS players still don't give it their all. I think it was two years ago that New England and Houston just split the prize money just to make it worthwhile. Maybe that got changed in the new bargaining agreement.
It's more that the clubs and MLS don't make any/much money off of these games. He can't come out and say it, but Garber has strongly hinted that if it were up to him MLS teams wouldn't even play in the USOC or the CCL. SuperLiga is MLS's preferred cash cow: MLS v. FMF and the leagues control the revenue. Not much of an upside for the New England Revolution to get beaten by Joe Public FC from Trinidad for the benefit of CONCACAF (although I think it's awesome).
I thought the SuperLiga was done. There was that line of thinking that the MLS clubs weren't taking the Open or Champions League seriously so I thought that they were doing away with SuperLiga and going to try to fix the compensation for the other competitions. Maybe I'm wrong.
This is a joke, right? I dig your enthusiasm, but it seems like you don't know dick about the game and you're only into this for the party. As long as your buying a ticket I guess.
In his defense, there's a big difference between knowing about "the game" and knowing about the CONCACAF Champions League, a fairly new tournament that involves exactly zero teams that interest many of us. If we ever get an MLS side, I'll start to care about the CCL, but it's not exactly anything that most people pay attention to unless their own team is involved.
Don't worry about him...he's been a detractor for awhile now. I always seem to pick up a few wherever I go. I don't pay them any mind. Nope...I don't know dick about anything like that over here. I never followed American soccer before this year...and being as the MLS and such isn't exactly getting ridiculous amounts of coverage, I never picked it up. But I love watching the game.
dude, don't be such a ********ing soccer snob. Yes, Battra is somewhat new to the sport. I'll admit that I am even somewhat new in a way, I've only been religiously following since 06, but I can go head to head with anyone now on current soccer and it's been my only sport since 07. From what I've gathered, Battra only likes 2 sports, hockey and soccer. I say give him a break, let him ask his questions and if it makes him look like a dumbass, so be it. I mean, you have to start somewhere, right? And if it means getting a dedicated soccer fan out of it, I think that's a positive thing.
