    Hi,

I'm from England and over in New York for a few months - I'm wanting to catch as much football as possible. Obviously I know about the red bulls, and am gonna make it to a fair few matches there.

What's more difficult to find is the lower league teams, and any qualifying matches they will play for the Open Cup.

Does anyone know of any matches coming up in the NYC/New Jersey area?

    Thanks!

How long will you be in NYC for?

Get more information here about Open Cup---> thecup.us.

The lower leagues have not determined how their teams will qualify. How teams qualify depends on the league, you can get an idea of how teams qualify by following the link below.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Lamar_Hunt_U.S._Open_Cup_qualification

Long story short, no information is available yet.

Here are a few other links:
FC New York, (USA 3rd division USL-Pro) starts playing in April http://fcnewyorksoccer.com/

If you want to get a taste of really lower league soccer, the NYC area has the Cosmopolitan Soccer League (USA 5th division - which might be equivalent to the 8th or 9th tier of English Soccer).

Been here for 6 months, and got another 6 months (minimum) to go here.

Thanks very much for the links and info. That's a real help!

Keen to see as much football as possible, so I will obviously keep checking the links, but if any of you guys hear anything, it would be great if you could post here if you remember!

    Thanks all

This is not correct. Most of the lower divisions have determined how teams will qualify.

2nd Division - NASL - was not allowed to participate
3rd Divison - USL Pro - all of the U.S. based teams will be in the tournament this summer. No qualification process
4th Division - PDL - teams will use four league games as qualifiers
4th Division - NPSL - they say they are going to have regional tournaments
5th Division - USASA - they have state and regional tournaments to determine the two teams from each of the four regions. Those tournaments are already underway in some states.

You are correct and I was wrong, what I meant to say was that the actual teams have not been assigned to the 1st round.

Not a problem. The schedules currently are Open Cup qualifiers that also doubles as regular season games. Normally the first four matches are also the qualifiers. If there are more than four in the month of May, then of course one of them doesn't count.

If you need more help don't hesistate to ask.
