Hope no one is so crazy to think, based on that, that we're going to win it in 2018. If we make QFs playing more than bunker, I'll be happy.
I would say at this point, Mexico is expected to make the second round and challenge for the quarters. Hard to argue otherwise given their history.
And if they don't give us the cup in 2022 we should invade Qatar and take it anyway. I mean it's Qatar, will anybody really give a shit?
Really? Because it's Costa RIca. You think we don't routinely handle them? In 2013 we beat them 3 out of 3. We are a better team. In a group with Costa Rica we will get results. Not so with the 3 Lions. The 3 Lions doesn't "underperform". They perform at the level you would expect given their players. Which are not at the level of the US national team. Maybe in the future they will be better , who knows. But now, every team hopes to be grouped with England in a tournament. Few hope to be grouped with the US. That says something.
Nope, 2 out of 3. With A-teams, we won one (1-0) and they won one (3-1). So if it were a global score, they won 3-2.
And let's face it. They had the run of play in the Snow game. The US was holding on for dear life at the end in Denver.
The way I see it with CRC is that our starting XIs are more or less comparable, we have a slight edge in talent through the 23, and then past that we have a significant advantage because of our depth. If we lined up a U.S. "C team" vs. a CRC "C team" (as in, players in spots 47-70 in our respective pools) I think we win 8 out of 10 times or more. Unfortunately for us, only one team plays qualifiers. CRC are a legitimate team with legitimate talent, especially in their usual starting XI which is what matters most. And they absolutely had the better run of play overall vs. us in qualifying. The snow game easily could have ended in a draw and it would have been a fair result.
Run of Play doesn't win games but statistically? Run of Play must have the edge. Just witness some of the 120 minute games in the World Cup.
Seeing make that incredible run makes me think how could we have played if Altidore was healthy....that guy was a HUGE part of our attack. Without him last minute really hurt us. Oh well...same could have been said about Davies in 2010. It's a CURSE!!
Shots: USA 6 CRC 9 On Goal: 1: 4 Corners: 3: 4 Fouls: 17: 14 Total pass: 403: 292 Pass Accuracy: 73%: 67% Possession: 57.3%: 42.7% So yeah they didn't actually dominate the run of play. I watched the match and their shots were mostly stuff from distance right at the keeper. Otherwise they had squat.
No one said they "dominated" the run of play, but that they had the better of it. And to present a stat showing us having ONE shot on goal the whole match (the goal), and saying CRC had "squat" is pretty rich. Seems we were the ones who had squat.
This isn't even worth arguing over at this point since you're so clearly grounded in your opinion and nothing will change it. I know what I saw that day.
