    United vs Panathinaikos 9/16

The first of what will hopefully be a long Champtions League run.

Scholes still out, Keano picked up an ankle injury vs Charlton and could be out, anybody else not fit?

Bad feelings about this one. Team hasn't been that sharp and I worry that they are overlooking the game.

I think we can all thank their Polish striker Emanuel Olisadebe for this not to happen:

“Their defence is not good enough for a top European team. They leave a lot of holes and let in too many goals. Why can’t I score a goal against them if a bad English side like Southampton can?”

    Barthez?

According to soccernet's preview of the match, it sounds like Barthez is going to get the nod. Anyone heard otherwise? I am NOT trolling.

    quote

"With all but one member of his defence retained since then, Fabien Barthez appears to have been singled out for the calamitous opening."

right from the article, which I forgot to put in the last post.

I think that means that Barthez has been blamed for the first leg loss against Real Madrid. Doesn't mention anything about him starting this match though.

    Re: Barthez?

Dude, I think you're misreading this. It says, in reference to goals scored vs. United by Real Madrid in the first leg of their match during last season's champion's league "with all but one member of his defence retained since then, Fabien Barthez appears to have been singled out for the calamitous opening". This does not mean Barthez is playing tonight. It means SAF blames Barthez for the defeat.

The mention of Barthez was in reference to the 3-1 loss in pre-season. As well the two legs against Real last year.

    Help!!!

I tried to subscribe to the UEFA MatchPass so I can listen to the game live, and I was told that only citizens from EU countries can subscribe. Does anyone know another place to listen to the game live?

    Thanks

Try manutd.com. You can listen on MU radio through MU TV. It was free last time I did it a few weeks ago.

Does anyone know what formation United is playing? UEFA.com no longer shows this in Match Centre (or is the full version only accessible by subscribers?)

    TIMMY!

That was a wonderful save from the American, his dive low and to his right saved a certain goal...

Excellent! Howard saves not only the goal, but Rio's face as well. Supposedly he was badly beaten in the air.

According to the Man Utd Matchtracker, they are playing a 4-5-1 with Giggs and Solskjaer moving forward to help Ruud in a more forward position.
