What about multiple, but not all? There's been a time or two in history when various African and Asian empires swept across north Africa, middle east, Europe, and Asia. I don't think they did it by sweet talking folk either.

We got an estimate of the makeup of the Russian National Welfare Fund recently, and Russia is not only out of the best kinds of hard currency, but is down overall as they spend more on weapons, soldiers, and nationalizations, and as natural gas has changed from a source of tax revenue to a sink.

    welfare.jpg

Russia recognizes the problem, and is trying to get China to give them loans. China hasn't said "yes" yet, as they are not sure Russia is good for it.

On a unrelated note, why do these graph programs always put the items with the greatest change on the bottom of this kind of graph? It makes it much harder to read.

    Priorities.

I have other people to pay attention to and attending to them is more satisfying.

    The Ottomans:
Asia (modern-day Iraq, western Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, Israel)
Africa, (Egypt, Lybia, Tunisia and, nominally, northern Algeria)
Europe (Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Hungary, as well as Georigia and modern-day Armenia).
Plenty of massacres and not a few near-exterminations there.

    The Iranians:
Europe, specifically contemporary Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as southern Dagestan.
Shah Abbas and, especially, Aga Mohamed Khan Qajar stand out. @Iranian Monitor could fill us in on the details. Otherwise, use your preferred Wikipedia entry.

    The Mughals:
If you regard the Indian Subcontinent as distinct from Asia, and many geographers do, the Mughal conquest of India (with Iranian assistance) wasn't exactly gentle, though it has been greatly exaggerated.

That's 3 transcontinental invasions off the top of my head.

"One particular group of people". Definitely. Their cooperation with each other to act as one was what brought Europeans domination over the rest of the world.

They never fought against each other until they'd secured their conquests from the native populations, and they certainly never allied with native princes, kings, etc. against each other.

    Right.

Ukraine is apparently conducting a major drone attack on Crimea. UAVs are attacking ground targets on the "island" and USVs are attacking Black Sea Fleet targets and the Kerch bridge. There are apparently a number of explosions, but it is unclear if the attacks are causing any damages.

The Kerch Bridge is still closed 2 hours after traffic was shutdown prior to the Ukrainian attacks. This is, apparently unusual, but could just be because it is late at night and they are just waiting for sunrise to visually check the bridge for damage.

The chances of this actually happening is probably pretty low, but France's Defense Minister has reportedly contacted his NATO counterparts suggesting that NATO troops start taking over non-front line defensive tasks within Ukraine to free up Ukrainians for the front line. This would include things like manning air defenses, demining operations, and launching cyber operations targeting Russian forces.

I am certainly in favor of outside people helping Ukraine, but isn't it kind of a waste to be putting skilled Ukrainian SAM operators and hackers and logisticians in the front line?

If they were to be moved to the front, it is probably more related to the manpower issues Ukraine is having, which is, apparently, pretty severe. Ukraine issued a stop/loss to prevent those the volunteered at the start of the war from moving and have extended the conscription period.

I believe Ukraine is still struggling with whether to mobilize their fighting age men.. Whatever they decide, they need to do it soon. There are reportedly indications that Russia is setting up for general mobilization to be ready for a summer offensive.

Russian sources are reporting that a corvette has joined the submarine fleet. The corvette was previously damaged in another USV attack, but may have been finished iff in this attack.

From that explosion, the ship may not be sunk but it's a write-off in terms of sailing, never mind combat operations for the foreseeable future.

    Good to see.

    Edit:
According the the usually reliable WarTranslated feed, the ship is sunk/sinking:
As a result of the strike by Magura V5 naval drones, the Russian ship of project 22160 "Sergei Kotov" suffered damage to the stern, right and left sides.

Reports claim the attack yesterday also took out the ship's on-board Ka-29 assault transport helicopter, which has a crew of 2 and is capable of carrying 16 soldiers and is equipped with 30mm autocannons Shtrum ATGMs and unguided rocket packs.

"A most unexpected benefit", you might say.:thumbsup:

That's exactly what I would be arguing if I were a skilled Ukranian SAM operator, hacker or logistician.

The first loss of a HIMARS has been confirmed. There have been at least 2 that were damaged and returned to the US for repair, but there is no repair for this HIMARS as it suffered a direct hit from an FPV and had a secondary explosion from the onboard missiles.

Genghis Khan and Tamerlane are surprised to learn this.

No no no every place in the world was the ********ing Garden of Eden before white people were invented.

The guy you are responding to would happily enroll in the cadres of a Trump of the Left. And posts like his are a test for the rest of us…do we have a set of principles that we fight for, or do we have a Team that we fight for?

I still can't find any confirmation if Kotov was indeed destroyed/sunk.
