This is what I've been saying all along. And its not just the UK, its Germany and Italy too:

    https://metro.co.uk/2022/10/06/nati...sia-stops-gas-and-we-have-cold-snap-17516843/

National Grid says UK will lose power if Russia stops gas and we have cold snap

Millions of Brits have been warned to brace for blackouts this winter if power plants can’t get enough gas to keep running, the National Grid has said.

Households are being encouraged to ‘save money and back Britain’ by using more energy during off-peak times.

People are being warned that in the ‘unlikely’ scenario, Brits could face three-hour planned outages, to stop the grid collapsing.

It would be the first time since the 1970s that planned blackouts would take place, which was during the miners strikes and the oil crisis.

There have also been major unplanned outages in storms, including in 1987 when over 1.5 million people were left in the dark.

In order to prevent planned power cuts, households will be paid to turn down their heating and not use their washing machines at peak time to save the country as much energy as possible.

Details of how much cash households will receive for turning down their appliances will be given on November 1.

The National Grid Electricity System Operator has issued its bleak “winter outlook” report that details the scenario that a shortage of gas could mean “planned interruptions of electricity supply to businesses and households”.

But the lights will stay on this winter unless the gas-fired power plants that produced 43% of Britain’s electricity over the last year cannot get enough gas to continue operating.

What you fail to grasp is everyone in power understands this consequence already. And they are making massive strides toward ensuring this winter is one-and-done.

Oh please, in California, we have rolling blackouts every summer now....it's not bad.

Yeah, you're Americans used to shitty organisations. Over here Dutch start to complain if someone is 1 minute over time on an appointment. We're pampered people used to everything working properly and in time.

It's true, in many regards, US and California are like third world countries. Every time it rains in the Bay Area, you'd think we just had the flood of the century.

  11. Part of your American life is to cope with adverse situations an most of the times deal with it on your own. Over here the generations born after the sixties are pampered to the hilt, so it's a big question how these generations are going to react to a major adverse situation. That ability has been tested during the hight of the covid lockdowns and that doesnot promise much for the good.

Much the same amount as we’ve had on the “Rainy Oregon Coast”
It’s a little drizzly this morning though. The coastal fog rolled in last night after a sunny day.

You asked why not landmines.. I answered your question with why they are using tungsten/steel balls instead of landmines and cluster munitions. War is a messy affair and, as such, the weapons used in war are horrible. This weapon is less horrible than the alternative and there is much less risk of civilians finding and being harmed by unexploded ordinance left behind by the use of this weapon..

In a matter of weeks that trip would be walkable anyway. Lately Bering Sea ice has been trending low in the winters.

I know they have, but it remains to be seen if they can cover their energy demands 100%. Covering them 90% isnt gonna be enough. It can easily plunge Europe into another recession and thats not what we need right after a pandemic.

There are also inflation issues because some countries now have to buy their gas from overseas companies and thats gonna be a lot more expensive.

BTW have you seen how far the uro and GBP have dropped over the last 9 months?? Its pretty bad, and could get a lot worse.
