Competition system There are 43 participating clubs, the same number as last year. This means that 7 seeded clubs are exemt from the first qualifying round. The remaining 36 clubs are drawn into 9 groups. The 9 group winners advance to round 2. The draw takes place on July 7. Dates for round 1 are August 9-13. The seeded clubs are: Turbine Potsdam (title-holder), Djurgården/Älvsjö, FFC Frankfurt, Arsenal, Brøndby, Masinac-Classic (Serbia-Montenegro) and Athletic (Spain). The second round is set up as follows: Group B1: Turbine Potsdam Group B2: Djurgården, Masinac Group B3: Frankfurt, Athletic Group B4: Arsenal, Brøndby plus group winners from round 1. The two best teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals. Dates for round 2 are September 13-17. Quarter-finals to be played Oct 8-12 & 15-19 as follows: Runner-up B2 vs. winner B1 Runner-up B3 vs. winner B2 Runner-up B4 vs. winner B3 Runner-up B1 vs. winner B4 The semi-finals are, according to the regulations, to be played in April 2006. Although UEFA seems to have decided to stage them already in November. The final (also two legs, home/away) to be played in May 2006.
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 Ranking procedure Last year, the teams participating in the UEFA Women's Cup were ranked accrding to country coefficients based on the fomula "points per games". According to this system, the seven seeded teams would have been Turbine Potsdam (Germany), FFC Frankfurt (Germany), Djurgården (Sweden), Røa (Norway), Poliplast Bardolino (Italy), Arsenal (England) and Brøndby (Denmark). But (no surprise!) UEFA has changed the ranking system AGAIN (I think they have changed it every year the competition have existed so far). According to the regulations: For seeding purposes, rankings are drawn up on the basis of a combination of 50% of the value of the respective national association's coefficient for the period from 2002/03, 2003/04 and 2004/05 inclusive, and the club's individual performance in the competition during the same period. Each club retains the cumulative number of points obtained during the periode. Can someone with access to information sent to the clubs from UEFA, maybe elaborate a bit on this - how exactly are the coefficients and points calculated? So, with this new system, Røa (Norway) and Poliplast Bardolino (Italy) are not seeded among the first 7 anymore, because they have not participated in the UEFA Women's Cup before. Instead, the old "familiar" teams Masinac-Classic (Serbia-Montenegro) and Athetic Bilbao (Spain) take these spots.

Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 A special "tusen takk" (1,000 thanks) to SteinL, Sabes, and SueB for keeping us informed about the UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 draw. Even though they have been struggling a bit this season and are currently only in 5th place in "Toppserien," with this draw I really like the chances of Røa to at least advance to the quarterfinals in October. Does anyone know when Kristine Rand Edner is expected to be back playing with Røa again?

Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 Idrettslag is norwegian for Sports Club. What we have in group 4 is the norwegian champions Kolbotn Idrettslag, usually known as Kolbotn IL or simply Kolbotn. United, on the other hand, would be a pretty generic name in e.g. England but is one of a kind in Finland, maybe better known as FC United, the tournament host.
RØA Idrettslag You are correct about everything here except you are getting a bit ahead of yourself saying that Kolbotn IL are already the Norwegian Champions (I'm sure that Hege Riise and her Strømmen teammates aren't quite ready to concede the title quite yet with still over half a season to play. ) The "Idrettslag" in this case is actually last season's double champions from Oslo, the Røa "Dynamite Girls."
Re: RØA Idrettslag Yes of course you're right. Even someone like me, who should be used to think backwards in the seasons when it comes to participation in UEFA competitions, gets it wrong sometimes
Re: RØA Idrettslag However, I agree that Norway would be much better represented in this year's UEFA Women's Cup by undeated Kolbotn than Røa. The "Dynamite Girls" had a very special season last year where everything fell into place perfectly for them. Røa still has a very good club this year, but it is unfortunate for them that the qualifying for this year's tournament doesn't start until nine months after they won the league title and the Cup Final.
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 I did notice (after I posted the schedule) that nordby's earlier post had referred to the club as Røa rather than Idrettslag. Sorry about that - I just used the shortened club names as they were posted at uefa.com. I didn't cut and paste from that site because I wanted the different group schedules listed separately. Easier to follow (at least for me).
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 Finally, a "preview article" from uefa.com (albeit brief) acknowledging that this competition is starting today. http://www.uefa.com/competitions/WomenCup/news/Kind=1/newsId=324917.html
Thanks for posting the link to this "preview article" SueB. Unfortunately for Røa, their tournament has gotten off to a terrible start with 4-1 loss to the Icelandic Club Valur: Røa Loses to Icelandic Club Valur
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 These are as many of today's results that I could find so far: Group A1 (Massama, Portugal) Montpellier 8 Glentoran 0 1. Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 I would really like to find out who scored the goals for AE Aegina (GRE). My girl plays for that team. Anyone have any scources for the goal scorers?
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 UEFA finally has all the results up here: http://www.uefa.com/Competitions/WomenCup/FixturesResults/index.html Some of the scores have links to full lineups and scorers. Hope your girl is doing well, Hammer. What a great experience that must be to be able to live abroad and play soccer. I hope she's enjoying it because the thought of being able to do something like that was outrageous to folks like myself who played in a much earlier era. I was just happy my college even had a women's team (though no scholarships, of course). Anyway, the final result of the day was Alma 5 Sofia 0.
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 I was at the match. Don't really know why. Our girls held 0-0 for quite a long time, but didn't manage to keep it.
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 Try this one - results in the first post are completed as soon as they get known http://www.ff-forum.net/board/thread.php?threadid=732
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 Thanks, but of course they don't have the score of the game I'm looking for. lol
UEFA Women's Cup Tables and Results [R] You can find all of the updated tables and all of the results here at SteinL's Norwegian women's football site: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 Nothing against SteinL, but it'd be nice for someone to post them here as well. I apologize for not doing so, but I've been quite ill the past couple of days.
Re: UEFA Women's Cup 2005/06 Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. Are you getting the results from the uefa.com site or are there other sites that you use? It has been my experience that the uefa.com site can sometimes be really slow at posting scores. What is really nice about the page that SteinL has at his site is that he has the tables for all of the groups updated and you can click on the individual tables to get information about the match statistics including a summary of the goalscorers.
