CHICAGO (Jan. 3, 2020) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team will hold a training camp from January 5-15 as head coach Tracey Kevins brings in 28 players to kick-off the new year in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

This will be the second-to-last event before Kevins chooses a 20-player roster for the Concacaf U-17 Women’s Championship to be held at the end of March.

The training camp roster features 24 players born in 2003, which is the birth cut-off year for players to participate in the 2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup that will be staged in India. Three players on this roster were born in 2004, including the team’s current leading scorer, forward Allyson Sentnor, and the youngest player is midfielder Olivia Moultrie, who was born in 2005. Moultrie signed an endorsement contract with Nike early in 2019 and became the youngest American female to turn professional. She trained with Portland Thorns FC of the National Women’s Soccer League last season and played matches with the Thorns U-18/19 Girls’ Development Academy Team. This is the 15-year-old’s first call-up to the U-17 WNT.

The U-17 WNT compiled a record of 9-1-1 in 2019 and will face England twice during its February training camp. At Concacaf qualifying, the USA’s group stage opponents will be Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Nicaragua. After that round-robin play, the top three finishers in each of the four groups will qualify for the knockout stage, joining the four group winners from the Qualification Stage in the Round of 16.

The knockout stage of the competition will be played in its entirety in a single match elimination format, with the top three finishers earning berths to India.

USWNT legend Heather O’Reilly, who retired from professional soccer after the most recent NWSL season in which she won the championship with the North Carolina Courage, will join Kevins as an assistant coach during the training camp.

Olivia Moultrie! One of my favorite future USWNT star player for sure!

Just a reminder that she was 13 years old when she played against U-17s and U-19s recently and just turned 14!

When she was 11 she played against 15 years old players.

    Played with the boys.

I know Olivia gets a lot of press but this has to be one of the best rosters, scoring wise at least, in a long time.
The Dallas trio of Shaw, Byars, and Missimo have played up 3 to 4 years at times and led their teams in scoring at every stop.
    Kevins will have no excuse.

Alexis Missimo is awesome! Now I like to ask anyone in the know why sometimes they put the players who played like U-18/19 and then put them down to lower age? Just saw Missimo have multiple goals at U-18/19 level a year ago or so and then go back to a lower age group? Now I would understand if they put back to lower age group if it’s harder or just not as developed against tougher opposition who may be faster and stronger but you have a player scoring multiple goals while a couple of years younger doesn’t make sense. You want to challenge these girls.

She had 13 goals playing against 18/19 and you take her down a notch to lower age group she scores 50 goals or so. She is not being challenged.

U17s have a WC this year. There's not one for U18 or U19s, and perhaps she's not seen as ready for U20s yet. I'd think its as simple as that.

If she's not going to be playing up at the U20s for whatever reason (plateau or something else), then playing in a WC is where the competition is, and not playing in friendlies against girls a year or two older.

Anybody find the results of the game against England U-17? Couldn’t find it and they didn’t stream it. Guess because it’s just a friendly training.

Sub Carina Lageyre scored in the 78th minute as the U-17 #USWNT defeated England, 1-0, in the first of two friendlies in Bradenton, Fla. Nadia Cooper earned the shutout in goal. Teams play again on Feb. 22

Pretty good Saturday for the U-20 AND U-17s finish WCQ prep by sweeping two-game set from England in Florida, winning 2-0 today on first half goals from Trinity Byars & Simone Jackson. Alexis Missimo had both assists.

Since COVID pushed things back, just bringing up recent news about the U-17s. Not sure what the point of the virtual camp is for unless its jus a conference of what they plan to do this year. I mean the girls are already playing right now with their clubs. Might as well do it in person camp. Unless the virtual camp they training on webcam.

U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team holding virtual training camp

While the U.S. Youth National Teams remain on hiatus when it comes to in-person training and competition, the U-17 USWNT is convening this week with a virtual camp.

The first roster is not yet available to the public, but dozens of players and youth clubs have announced their call-ups for the event via social media. So far, over 50 players have revealed their participation.

North Carolina Courage Academy has reported six different ECNL players called up for the virtual camp, while New Jersey clubs PDA and STA have five and four call-ups, respectively. Virginia ECNL powerhouse Richmond United and Girls Academy club The St. James FC Virginia each have three representatives.

See below for a full listing of players that have been confirmed as U-17 USWNT virtual training camp invitees. Please report additional participants via email to News@TheSoccerWire.com

I have so many questions about a virtual training camp although other teams have also chosen to do so (e.g. Canadian women's basketball team). I can see the value of meeting and discussing playing systems, breaking down video, etc. but I don't know if I'd call that a training camp.

Also just because players are playing with their clubs does not mean they should just go ahead and have an in-person training camp. That is not how controlling the spread works, nor does it protect players. Exposure to more people increases exponentially your possible exposure to COVID.
