FWIW, according to this interview with Phil Schoen, GolTV will be broadcasting the finals from Bolivia. Of course, that doesn't help with the qualiifiers.
I would check out the Spanish channels...Telemundo..galavasion etc...the usually televise youth matches as well, if not live, at least on delay...
The U-17 World Championship is being played this August in Finland. Bolivia is hosting CONMEBOL's U-17 championship. http://apps.fifa.com/scripts/runisa.dll?S7:gp::67173+u17/2003/index+E
Good catch -- that went right over my head when I read it. Well, it's certainly good to know that we'll get strong coverage of CONMEBOL qualifying in the U.S., but won't be able to see CONCACAF qualifying. So, I guess it's still an open question as to whether the finals will be televised here.
The qualifier on the 5th will be on matchtracker at http://www.ussoccer.com and that's the best we get. Too bad if the finals are on GolTv only as I don't think too many get that. The team is in the air on the way to Guatemala as I type this Sunday.
Thanks Thanks to all for the information. I was anxious to see Adu play for the first time. I guess I will follow on the game on "match tracker".
Is anyone going to these matches or know how I can contact the federation about tickets? I am a big Nat team fan traveling in Guatemala right now, but am a little nervous about going into the capital because there is a lot of crime there right now. Would love any information I could get, just to be more comfortable going.
http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/NationalTeams/1046714124/view interesting release from the fed on the trials and travails of the team on the first day. I think the key is to just roll with the punches, laugh about it, and get even on the field. The best part was how even the ants in Guatemala are trying to undermine the U.S. effort Two wins and a draw and first place in the group says I. Guillermo Gonzalez will stand out as a future (not too far either) United States soccer star. I'm sure the Freddy and Eddie Show will do alright too, with Spector and Owens keeping rival forwards in their back pockets for most of the tourney.
I was in Guatemala City about three months ago on business. There are several very nice areas (Zones 9, 10, 11, I believe). These are the zones where all the nice hotels are. I wouldn't be worried about Guatemala City, just don't walk around alone at night in non-commercial areas. Guatemala City is by far the nicest Central American City I've been to. The weather is wonderful; however, I can attest from personal experience that the altittude does afferct aerobic performance. If you get a chance, go to the games!!! And report back to us at BS!
I will be in Guatemala Cbass, I will be in Guatemala city for the games. I believe there will be others.
I think the MatchTracker will look something like this frequently: "Freddy Adu oooooooohhhhhhhhhhh Gooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllll"
