    Two quick questions:

    1) Is the Rothenberg trophy like the Dewar cup (USOC), where you have to give it back, or is it D.C. United's to keep?

    2) Has anyone seen what the championship rings look like?

    Just curious.

    1) Ours to keep. 2) I haven't.

Nope. By now we should have 4 in the case. I used to love to go to the FO and look at the original two. I think they look soooo much better than the current "shooting star" POSes.

I liked the original trophy better as well. The new one looks too much like the Lombardi Trophy (which is class, but hard to imitate well).

On the plus side - We're the only team to have any of the original style trophies right? Or did Chicago get one?

The new style was introduced in '99 so Chicago should have one.

That just doesn't do it justice. There is just something about seeing it ALL in person :D

I still say they need to wheel the whole thing out for a Mutts game. We should be nice enough to show them what real trophies looks like :D

Thank you Piotr, please sir may we have more :D

who cares? Conference Championship trophies are only for teams not good enough to win the real ones.

I recall going to the FO when it was out off 28. Walking past that Trophy Case gave me a very proud and warm feeling. Not a one of the photos on that page do justice to the actual items. Every United fan owes it to themselves to go see the Trophies at least once.

I personally like both the old, and current trophies. Both are class. I personally like MLS CUP better than the Lombardi, and I like how its curved like a shooting star. I think its a VERY unique and distinctive tropy, and it will only become more prestigious with time. I just hope the KEEP it the way it is for a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME.

Tiffanies makes the current one correct?

    Yep.

That thing has GOT to be expensive considering it's made purely of sterling silver. I'm thinking it's at least $10,000 bucks.

I would have to think that there is a new trophy each year because for a while the 1997 trophy was displayed at the City Museum.

Where is the front office anyway? Is it in RFK, because I'd like to see the trophy case myself someday soon.

It's been at RFK since the team moved their offices there from the I-66 corridor. I've had the pleasure of seeing that case in all three places it has resided - United Park, the old-school United offices, and its current location at the RFK offices.

A bit of trivia - the original trophy case was designed and built by former United player Erik Imler, who is apparently a master woodworker.
