On that note Amstel have you ever seen Dwayne DeRosario or Pat Onstad play live, they were both in San Jose before the Quakes moved and are both great players, especially DRo. AMAZING ball movement and passing and very good finishing. I'm sort of surprised DRo has never made it over to Europe in a lower league, just a great all around player.

So are the Olympics a big deal in the Netherlands, or could people care less? I remember the country has good speed skaters in the winter and good swimmers in the Summer. What other sports do you guys have a shot at gold at these games?

At the wintergames only speedskating, we got real winning changes at something like 8 distances.

It's our second sport, millions of Dutch are gonna watch it live on television.

At the summergames we're usually decend in field hockey, rowing, womens cycling, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, track-cycling.

Have darts taken over speedskating as the second sport? Beside that lakeside tournament I hardly come across it.

Is that darts? LMAO, Thats a sport? I remember back in the day my grandfather was quite a dart-athelete. He had a bunch of trophies.

3,4 million people watched the Lakeside dartsfinal this year here in Holland, the eredivisie highlights broadcasted on another channel at the same time only drew 1,2 million viewers.

    ratings for that weekend:

You should look at the ratings when Van Velde won gold on the 1000 meter in Salt Lake City and compare it with the lakeside final.

More then 2 million viewers for a European championchip where all Dutch did not perform is pretty impressive

I agree, the Lakeside Championship is more comparable with the Olympics for skating, the Tour de France for cycling (also a big sport in Holland) or the EC or WC for football.

Plus, darts is a hobby, not a sport.

In the summer you can add judo ofcourse. And now maybe shot-putting.

Wish Britain had the same medal prospects but I will be glad if anyone comes in the top 100 from us. Trying to watch the ski-jumping now, but just can't understand it.

Hm yes, I don't understand it much either. I heard from someone that there was a limit to how far they may jump or something:confused:

    Re: Turin 2006 Olympics

I have no idea. Think it has something to do with the distance they jump and then a panel of judges give them points for artistic impression or something. Then again, I'm probably wrong!!

US 1- Ned 0. :D . 5,000m speed skating went to an American Hedrick with Dutchman Kramer wearing the silver.

Thank you DSC, I totally spaced on that. The results usually are released before it is televised in the US. NL might be closer to live, but if youre not looking for spoilers, dont go on espn.com for the next couple weeks.
