I compiled statistics from the first two rounds of group play to look at which teams were more direct when attacking, and more aggressive defensively through the first two games. I included a chart for defensive aggression, the rest of my findings can be found here. My initial reaction is that England clearly took the wrong approach by allowing players like Pirlo and De Rossi so much time on the ball. Have to think that was their undoing, as they are such a huge outlier compared to the rest of the field. Anyone else notice anything surprising?
chile is one of the most aggressive teams though...I missed the netherlands game did that game drive their numbers up?
I haven't had time to update after yesterday's games yet. All stats are only through 2 group games and I will update after Thursday's games.
I updated through all the group games, and added a chart for shot dominance. http://nnelli.wordpress.com/2014/06/23/world-cup-team-playing-styles-through-group-stage-games/
