You know how I know that you're old? Because you made that 40-year-old cultural reference. You know how I know that I'm old? Because I got it.
I remember the reruns when I was home sick from school in the 70s. Maybe channel 9 in NY or channel 11 (or both)? Love American Style, My 3 Sons, Get Smart, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Hogan's Heroes, Gilligans Island
That's not gonna happen, and even if it did, it wouldn't stop the increasingly conservative behavior of regular American citizens who wake up every morning willing to continue to do the little things to add to Black misery. What happened in 2018 that's worth a judgement of being wrong?
I am of the same era, yes those were among the re-run shows of the Seventies. Also Petticoat Junction, Mr. Ed, Mission Impossible (duh), The Courtship of Eddie's Father, Andy Griffith (duh), Bonanza, The Wild Wild West, and many others. Oh and Room 222, Karen Valentine, heart throb. Hard to believe that I got good grades.
So... I've been unfriended by a centrist/right FB friend for pointing out that her post "We're about to crash the economy over a 97% survival rate" should be read as, "This should kill roughly 10 million people, if the death rate stays 3% here". Worst thing is, she got the post from a damn tattoo artist. Probably owns the business. As sick as I am of this virus, I'm that much sicker of hearing the survival rate. I don't care who's not going to be deterred from reaching their age of average life expectancy- that's, y'know, expected. I want to know how many people are dying. Get the grades, get the schollys, get the degree(s) and get a job- state or federal, if possible. Your lemonade stand ain't gonna last thru stuff like this.
In the 80s in NZ we only had 2 channels so they launched a "kids TV" initiative on saturday mornings so parents could get some slack. The lineup was stuff like Hogan's Heroes, Get Smart, Bonanza etc etc. i don't think we realised these shows were already old. Then they'd have one modern show like Fraggle Rock
I lived in NZ in 1971. One channel, black & white, BBC shows from 3 years before. The big deal was people coming back from England squealing on what Coronation Street was doing 3 years later.
Yes, I can. But death is gonna happen. These folks need to quit pretending. Yeah, I got that wrong. Not all of us will catch the virus. But it isn't why she unfriended me. Sad that people would disassociate from another for anything not directly related to the struggle of POCs or indirect racism.
I don't think so. 3% of the country is 10 million, not that everybody will get it, but I thought your point was on track. I was mocking your FB friend.
The scale is something else though. I mean if 3% of people started dying in my apartment/hinterhof - that is pretty scary - let alone my street
Lol It didn't improve much. I remember our tv had a button you could push to switch to black and white
One thng we're learning is that there's a significant chunk of the electorate that is partisanly independent. In other words, their political lens is fundamentally fixed in the idea that there are two relatively equal parties with relatively equal levels of competence and good-faith interest in governing, and that therefore both parties are valid choices based on whatever whimsical feeling they have that day. These "partisan independents" are just as responsible for Trump as the Republicans because they let him get away with murder.
