Marsi is very right, that's the record. Red Star let the visitors, ASSE, play in GREEN that day and they got pummeled. Never let the visitors play in their color, that's the moral of that story. I think St etienne went up that year but I am not sure. I also think Red Star went the other way that year. Could we see a similar repeat of this next year ? If Racing getting promoted to Ligue 2 and ASSE get relegated then next year they'd both be in Ligue 2 and playing their match at the Stade de France perhaps ??

I don't know what happened on that day at Stade de France. To have that big an affluence is just incredible for Red Star. That year, Red Star averaged about 1,500-2,000 a game at home. Is that the only game of the season they played at SdF ? I would have to look into that. To put in perspective, ASSE averaged about 25,000 (maybe more) at home which is outstanding for D2 where the national average is probably more in the 5,000 range (maybe a tad more, I haven't looked at the national stats for that year). I am pretty sure they counted everybody including non-paying kids from soccer schools in the area. There is just no way I guess it's pretty encouraging for a 2nd club in Paris if the numbers have not been inflated drastically. iougs

Stade Bauer was not ok'd for D2 games in 98/99. That thing is a ruin. Red Star had to play their games at Stade de Marville, not at Bauer because of security reasons (roofs falling down). Now, that may explain the poor attendance during that season for such an historic club. On that SdF game against ASSE, how many pple were ASSE fans? Most likely, many more than Red Star fans.
