The MLS may suck, but it's better than our U20 league. The scary part is there's a huge gap between Liga MX and Liga de Expansion, and then there's a huge gap between Liga de Expansion and Liga MX SUB20. So long as our secondary leagues are crap, this is going to happen. You don't have to have a bunch of U20 players starting in Liga MX, but you have to give them a competitive alternative until they're ready.
I’d agree with you if we didn’t already have quite a bit of success at the youth levels. You can criticize Mexico for a lot of things, but not for its track record at the youth levels. The FMF is trying to fix something that wasn’t broken just for the sake of drinking the MLS coolaid.
The FMF puts far more effort into those camps leading up to youth world cups than a lot of other federations, and that's a big part of the reason they've had success in them. It's nice that we have silverware there, but it's not an accurate representation of our development of players.
This game reeks of PKs and I’m sorry but that favors Guatemala. This game has been in the muck and I’m sure Guatemala has no problem with that. Just not any standout quality on this Mexican team.
Those camps mean jack shit if clubs don’t continue doing their part in further developing these players
Not really accurate. When it’s common for players to undergo the famous proceso and debut “young” at 23-25 years old, it’s no wonder why youth success doesn’t translate to the senior NT. Just because Liga MX doesn’t know how to develop players doesn’t mean the talent isn’t initially there.
Forget the senior NT. It doesn't even translate into Liga MX. Even just going by my own club, which is supposed to be an example to follow, most guys who make their debut in Liga MX are extremely underprepared. Lozano, Aceves, and Guti were the only exceptions in recent times. Most guys take 2+ seasons just to adapt to the rigor of the league, and from those most end up being loaned to bottom of the barrel clubs like Mazatlan or to the second division. They aren't ready. You can force clubs to play them and it would probably be a net positive for the NT, but improving our secondary options would be a much better solution. Less players going to shit bc they debuted too early and couldn't handle it, and overall would be a much more streamlined developmental ecosystem. You can also force clubs to play youth players, but that alone isn't the best solution.
Jonathan Perez is very good, but Torres is not a good winger. He seems to play better as the second forward.
I have no faith in this team winning this game in PKs Bunch of mental midgets and that coward Luis Perez pulled a Mejía Barón not making subs
He screwed up the penalty but Lozano should have remained in. Much better presence in the box than his replacement. Wish I could be optimistic about this upcoming shootout. Guatemalan keeper looks too poised and strong.
Saying 20 year-olds “aren’t ready” is precisely this league's problem. It’s weird better leagues don’t use the “rigor” of the league as an excuse to not play youngsters.
Since about minute 70 or so, too much individual play. Violante with some good runs clearing space, then taking a hero shot, Perez beats one defender, cuts back creates space, he needs to let the ball go.. same with Gonzalez. There is good individual talent on this team, but you need to create trust in team, without taking away their individual play. I don't see much creation of play from Ambriz and Mariscal, at least not in this game.
Because they have better youth systems + better secondary options that further streamline the development of the players. Blackpool would beat Juarez 5-0.
