Trent is poofed, piqued, and planning to run for Senate Leadership. Race of the numbnuts: Frist v. Lott. Plus, he's taking an outsider's role.

Frist is looking mighty vulnerable right now, from a leadership perspective.

Lott should have never been replaced. He was a great leader (Though he's no Bob Dole). So much more effective than Dr. Jacknuts

    SILENCE, RACIST FRANKENSTEIN!

I knew I'd get to use that Adult Swim quote, but I didn't know it would be so soon.

You know damn well that Lott's comments at Thurmond's birthday were not meant to be racist. Now you have an incompetent running the Senate. The PC brigade wins again! Horray!

Come on now, you can't blame this one on the PC bridgade. The republicans jettisoned him like a flaming bag of crap the moment they had the opportunity.

Now if Trent would have said, "we would be much better off if you would have been elected president in 2000," I would have to agree.

We could be doing a whole "Weekend at Strom's" thing with the secret service propping him up all over the planet.

Jesus, Matt, why are you acting completely ********ing stupid? A Mississippi senator talking nice about Strom Thurmond's Dixiecrat 1948 candidacy isn't racist? That's seriously ********ing dumb. "The Civil War was not about slavery" dumb.

What does it take for a Republican to do wrong in your book?

What are you supposed to say at a man's buirthday? "Happy B-day you racist douche and we're luck to never had you as president"?

It takes a republican putting wiretaps on the phones of citizens without autorization froma court to do wrong in my book.

I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either.

I'm very curious to hear what you think Lott really meant.
    And whose fault is that?

I don't see why not. Thurmond was senile anyway. He would have never known.

I'd just say "happy birthday you racist douche" and leave it at that.

I think he meant to say that Thurmond would have been an efective leader and would not have put into place programs that Truman did, some which created some awful problems in this nation that we are still trying to resolve.

Some oportunistic republicans who used an inflated non issue for their own personal gain.

The people of Mississippi aren't supposed to elect people who kiss up to racists, and the Party of Lincoln isn't supposed to put forward those people as leaders.

But the next time I'm at some racist douche's birthday party, I'll take your advice and be tactful.

OK, now I know you're just kidding. That "awful" Truman, could've been saved from ruin in post-war America by the noble Strom... heh, very funny.

    You are kidding, right?
Then what'd you mean by the "PC brigade"?

Truman did dick about civil rights. Eisenhower was forced to by the courts.

I am talking about things like HUD title 1 and 2. The first created funding for public housing which brought societies most fragile citizens together. The second created subsidies for suburban housing which lowered the tax base in the inner cities. Both of these together created horrible ghettos in what were once thiving inner cities.

You're right - Thurmond would never have given money and housing to black people.

Not like I agree with that POV, but it's certainly not racist.

With the power of outrage by every news outlet, Frist was able to take advantage of a fragile situation and storm into power.

So your argument is that when Lott talked about "all these problems", he was talking about... HUD subsidies?

Have you thought about working for Senator Lott personally as his press spokesperson? 'Cause man, he could've used quick thinking like that when his statement hit the blogosphere.

    What does it pay?

Look, I don't know what was in his head when he said what he did. I just don't think he was out there to offend anyone.

I'll go one crazy step further. Without HUD 1 and 2, Tookie may still be alive today.
